To cover or not to cover ?

I have been given numerous answers on why to cover or not to cover my cages. I am trying it tonight. I stay up til around 10:30 and up around 6:00. What are your thoughts?:

We cover. Our 2 birdies have their own room. Between 7-8 they are ready for bedtime. Work days they are up around 6, off days they slkep till 8:30-9:00. They never make a peep until I go to uncover them. Such good babies!

I can imagine you're getting conflicting information because of difference in people's opinions you've heard, but covering or not covering is neither right nor wrong. It makes sense in some households and in not others. Personally, I cover.

In circumstances where there is still some human activity in the room when it's time for birds to go to bed, I think it cuts down on distractions in the room and helps them settle down to sleep. It's a cue to them that it's time for bed.

A BIG reason I like to cover is because at this point in time my schedule is so that I don't have to wake up super early. Covers keep a couple of my earliest risers quiet!

I don't know for sure what my bird prefers but she growls as soon as I do it for a few seconds then goes back to beak grinding either way I cover because I'm still awake on the pc which is in her line of sight for a few hours after her bedtime.

My RB2 and my friends will tell us that it is 'bubbyes' or 'bedibows' until they are covered and then sit and grind for a bit. It means also that they are kept warmer also.

With the light mornings now it also means that they get the required 12 hours beauty sleep/rest.

Salty gets covered at 10PM and uncovered at 10AM, year round. He is not fond of bedtime and would prefer to roost at the highest point in the room, his play chain which is suspended from the ceiling. But thats not going to happen , as our household during the week starts rousing at 4:30 AM ( me) to get ready for work. We ( my sons and I ) make a bit of noise in the AM, not a lot, and surely not enough to wake him up, he who sleeps thru tv movies such as Saving Private Ryan without ruffling a feather. After we are all out of the house by 7:30, he has total silence until my wife rouses him at 10 AM. THis way he gets his 12 hours every nite, and he is still up at nite when I get home at 6 for several hours of play and training . He's almost 2 now and he has been on this time schedule almost from day one. The only change will be in a week or so, when we switch over to his lightweight ( but light proof) cover from his heavy winter cover.
