Congo African Grey: Russell Peters (R.I.P. my baby)
Hi there,

Russell had his semi annual visit to the vet yesterday and I've noticed he seems to be exceptionally tired and subdued. Is this normal, my husband took him so I wasn't there and he said the vet had to towel him to get him in and out of his travel crate and as well to handle him. This upsets me as the vet who normally handles him doesn't need to towel him but she wasn't there and my husband isn't the kind of person to speak up and say he would prefer no towelling. This makes me think he's exhausted from the experience, I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience with their pet after visits to the vet.

Thanks.... April

Maybe the vet was Over Per-cautious !
When birds get Toweled .I feel they have Adrenalin Rush since its something new and by a new person they don't know what to expect.
Maybe he was a little upset and was kinda stunned.
Figaro loves one of my vets and hates another.
Its funny since ed is not a Avian vet when i take the cats in Figaro loves to go visit Ed.
but my avian vet she Hates .
Difference Ed lets Figaro come to him , Avian Vet Towels .
i found a new avian vet that spends 20 minutes just being kind to the birds before examination and does not towel.
next visit is Friday ill let ya know how it goes with Figaro this will be Visit 2 with new vet.Tammy

I too have used 2 vets. The first one used a towel to examine Rosie but she did not seem to be upset because I train her at home with a towel. This vet was not avain certified.

The second vet was avain and she used no towels at all and established a very good relationship with my bird from the start. A big difference in vets. Being tired after an outing will most likely be for the first 24 hrs. If it was beyond that I would give the vet a call to expess your concerns.
