tips on a problem behavior

Echo my 4yr old TAG has been flying to the top of my living room window and keeps knocking off my vertical blinds. I know it's nothing but fun for him but he has destroyed them and I now have to decide what to put up there instead. Any tips on stopping his flying up there would be greatly appreciated. I know I can clip him but that will only be a temporary fix.

Bad habits are very hard to break. My girl flew onto our light shades that hang from the ceiling and she chewed on the wires! She is now clipped for this reason and SEVERAL other reasons.

What if you hang a net over the blinds at the top - I think I read that somewhere on this forum recommended by somebody?

Dont give him freedom in that part of your house, or do you have blinds in your whole house?

Invest in training perches. The beautiful thing about doing the initial flight training on special parrot training perches is that the parrot becomes very accustomed to landing on them. They are unique to the parrot and become the parrot's place. It knows them as a safe place and will gravitate toward them under panic or distress. Since they look like nothing else in your home, you won't be inadvertently teaching your parrot to land on your own stuff. If I was you I will put this close to the blinds so that Echo choose to land on them.

There are several members who do have flighted birds on this forum, I am sure they will tell you what they do.

Well I can't keep him from the room as his cage is in my living room.. I do clip him when needed and will probably be doing so today. I usually do clip when he starts to get to bold.. But he has started to find me in the other parts of the house and will fly right to me and it is a very cool thing that has happened naturally.. I have had my share of birds fly out the door so clipping is usually a must in my household. I will also be looking into the net idea for future use.

Do you know where I can get a training perch? That might be an awesome tool I can use for all of my FIDS!
