Time for a bath

Week three was somewhat of a hit. He responded positively and excitedly when I asked if he wanted to take a bath. He still doesn't like for droplets of water to land on him from my hand, but he doesn't mind the mister. This time, he actually flapped his wings, so I guess he is adjusting well. He was pretty soaked at the end, but low and behold, after he dried and preened, the flour been was back. not as bad, but still. Some progress is better than none. Right?

I just put him in the tub with the Rubbermaid bowl I'd used previously to help with familiarity, and the mister. He just sat on the side of the bowl looking at me as if he were saying, "please pick me up. I don't like this." He never puffed up or flapped his wings. The water just ran off of him. He did let me towel him and dry him with the blow dryer without a fuss. When he preened again, his beak looked as if he'd stuck it in flour. LOL! I'll keep this up weekly, to start, then progress to more frequent baths. He didn't seem to hate it, but he didn't seem to like it either.

LOL!!! He's an "On My Dime" kind of bird.

He is such a trip, but a joyful one. :)

Salty does best perched on the back of an office chair with a towel draped over it. He spreads his wings and accepts the water, He still does not go "Amazonl" but will, after the spritzing is done, go over to his water bowl, a large one, and take his version of a bath. In winter, Salty gets a bath once a week, our house is drafty and we put a room heater on him until he is dried off.

It will take a few regular mistings/showers for your grey to have noticeably less powder than now. In a bit of time, his feathers will be beautiful and so very healthy looking.

So I'm giving Perjo daily indoor baths now, and I have a digit temp and humidity reader. Humidity is struggling to stay at 40, whichs means I'm going to buy another small one and attack this issue with two of them for the time being. I
m also tracking outdoor/indoor temps and RH indoors and thermostat setting to get this done to a better science.

Getting a 3oz spray misting bottle to try some aloe vera juice/water.

I also have started giving Perjo baths in the kitchen near the sink (not above it just yet) while she is just perched on my hand. I raise and lower my arm to force her to flap her wings a bit to get in under her wings as well. And she has really taken to this method. She always lets out a very loud high pitched whistle when any bath is done, it's her thank you whistle. She does it the moment the last squeeze of the spray bottle is completed when she is on my hand. It's nice to know she likes it b/c now I don't have to try to get her into her smaller cage for a bath which is never a big deal but sometimes she just isn't interested.
