11 month old Senegal Parrot - 3 year old SI Eclectus
Here lately, Tiki my 11 month old Senegal has taken to sitting on my head. I will put him on my lap where he will shortly there after climb up my chest to my shoulder and then scamble up to the top of my head using the back of my hair as a rope.

I've had him now for about 2 1/2 weeks. He's has no problem when I tell him to step up and remove him from my head. My wife thinks it's not a good idea to let him sit on my head. She said if this keeps up, she will start calling me poop head. Now, I have been called worse and have felt like a poop head at times, but never literally hahahahahaha!

But so far he hasn't pooped on my head. He's pooped on my lap & shoulder more than a few times depending on how long I keep him there, which I don't mind, it's all part of the game.

Any ideas as to why he likes to sit on top of my head? Is there any drawbacks to this other than having a poopy head?:42:

from what i can gather the higher a bird sits the higher they are in rank?? so i've read??:greenyellow:

you can kinda toilet train him, its rare for my sene to poop on us or on furniture, mostly she will fly onto her cage to do so, when she does have an accident, i say in a lowish voice, ewww nut...poop! and clean it off, but if she poops over her cage, i always say good girl...... in a more happy tone, so keep a waste bin by you, and every now an again hold him over it, if he goes give him the happy sounds, but dont hold for long i'm talking seconds lol, best is if his perched on your finger, if you see him poop on you, stop make un-happy sounds and clean it off, theres probably a better method, but this seems to work best with my nut, i use to put her back onto her cage and if she pooped made all the right noises for her, she will still poop on me, if she see's me in my uniform! so she knows what she's doin:63:

in fact when we 1st got her she use to perch on our heads?? especially mine and my son's, but now she only goes there if i put a hair grip in that she like's to chew off?

my birds like to sit on my head too. i don't mind it, i just lift them down every 15-20 mins and hold them over newspaper and say 'poop' when they've done it they climbe back up!!

This is not true. Parrots are not looking for a higher rank.

Tiki probably just likes it up there. A parrot is use to climbing up it's part of their natural instincts.

I would not allow it at all. As soon as Tiki starts to climb up stop him. You can also shake you head back and forth as to make him unstable. They do not like a shaky unstable perch. If you are consistent with not allowing this he should quickly learn what is an acceptable location to spend time with you.

Parrots like the highest perch so they can see if a predator is nearby. CW is correct the height dominence theory has been proved to be no true. I would not like my bird to sit on my head however, you have very little control of them there.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe he likes to sit on my head because I have less control over him. Then again, I also thought he was using my hair to make a nest hahahahahaha. He hasn't been DNA tested and the only verification that I have that Tiki is a boy bird is by what the previous owner said that the breeder she got him from said he was a boy bird. But she got him while the breeder was still hand feeding so I can't see how he could have known.

So Tiki could very well be a she rather than a he:D
