No loose threads. Would cut off the loose rope at top and bottom and cut any loose threads. If a bird is known for chewing on these, then they aren't safe. They can cause crop impaction that, if not removed through surgery, results in a slow death from starvation...

Look for the same item in sisal. I have sisal boings on every playgym. The problem with the the pictued item, is you really have to keep on top of trimming loose threads. Plus after several scrubbings. they look shabby.
