Thoughts on this cage?

I have been shopping around online for cages since I might be purchasing a new Pionus in the near future. I came across this cage on Amazon: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007TVEC16/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?ie=UTF8&m=A3LRDQCJ73A2H4]Amazon.com: Large Play Top Bird / Parrot Cage w/ Stand and Wheels - Black: Pet Supplies[/ame]

I really love all the features of this cage, especially the playtop. From what I have read, it is a good size for a Pionus, but I'm wondering about the bar spacing (7/8"). Some websites I've read say that 1" spacing is fine, but others say not to go larger than 5/8". It seems to me that it would be okay, since Pionus are heavier bodied birds. Any thoughts?

I really like the cage and I think the bar spacing will be fine for a pionus. My quaker has a cage very similar to this one and I love it, the bar spacing is about the same . I like to went crazy putting the seed guards on though.=)

IMHO that cage is too small. It is only 23x21 and pionus need 32x23. I would just search on Craigslist for a big cage that is cheap.

It really depends on how much time he would have to be in it . If he is out most the day , I think it would be fine . But if he had to be in it for a good part of the day then I would go bigger. My Birds are out almost all day and hardly go in their cages... unless I have to leave and no one is home to watch them.
I do like that cage, especially the play top : )

I definitely like to spoil my birds and give them time out of the cage. I will see if I can find a similar cage that is slightly larger, but I do think this one will be fine. The bird will be out of the cage pretty much all the time while I am at home. Any more thoughts on the bar spacing? I think it will be okay but I want to be sure.

I would not buy a cage that is smaller than 32" wide like cdog mentionned.

It has a lot of great features. I have an arched cage that opens on the top. Bolo stays on the top perch or edges of the cage all day & night unless he is eating or drinking. So I really love the top perches on this cage. the slide-out drawer is very helpful for cleanup.

It looks to me like the door could be a little bigger. I just don't like the tiny door on Bolo's cage, so the door on this cage may not even be an issue with you.

You will have to take your bird out - or teach it to crawl up - to get to the top, but that solid top catches poop instead of having it fall through. Since Bolo always "goes" in the same place, I would prefer an easier way for him to go back inside his cage. But that may not even be a cage type that is made, for all I know!

Personally, I am actually leaning more toward an open playgym-type cage for Bolo, keeping his old one for backup. He may prefer sleeping in "ole faithful" rather than an open cage, so I will let him decide for me!

I prefer the cages that are wider than they are tall. Gives the bird more wing space to flap. It is a tad too small.

I agree with spiritbird, you want a cage a bit more wide than that. It's a nice design, it just seems awfully narrow. Birds aren't helicopters afterall ;)

Just opinions same with your signature, this cage I like.
.

Pionus need more space because they aren't small birds. Unless that cage is only for sleeping in it is too small. Pionus need at least 32x21 if they are going to be in it for more than just sleeping. I would not use that cage for anything bigger than a Gcc.

Thank you all for the responses! I was under the impression that this cage was large enough after reading several pionus care sites. However, I am definitely going to try to find a larger cage. I want to spoil my bird as much as possible so I would hate to have a cage that is too small. I just hope I can find a cage with a similar playtop because that is my favorite feature about this cage!

Now I'm leaning more toward this one: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005N2F3L6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A2LDZGFAGG1QXE]Amazon.com: A&E Cage Company 32" X 23" Play Top Bird Cage, Green: Petco[/ame]

It's bigger and it looks like it might be more sturdy. I also like how the main door seems a bit larger. What do you guys think?

That cage looks perfect, I have the dometop version for my gcc pair.
