Last night I came home from shopping and as I walked in the front door my daughters friend was sitting in the living room and she had this confused look on her face. She said " um where did you just come from?" "I said the supermarket why?" She said " But haven't you been talking to me?" I said " No, I have been out for an hour" She then told me what happend.

Amy comes in through the front door and calls out for my daughter who is in the bathroom and says she will be down in a minute. Amy then waits in the sitting room texting another friend. She calls out "Hi" to me ( I am usually in the kitchen or the family room) "Hi Luv" is the response followed by " Whats going on? Amy responds " we just had a family function and now Hayley and I are going out for coffee". Response "aww nice" Amy asks " did you guys go out for brunch today?" Response " No"followed by " do you want a cup of tea?" Amy says " No thanks" response " Ok" at which point I walk in the front door and say Hi to Amy followed by Puffin saying " Mummy's home!"

It was at this point Amy realised she had been talking to Puffin, not me!

Seriously these birds never cease to amaze me!

That is unbelievably funny! I can only imagine the look on her face when you walked in the door! Sounds like the three of you will have a nice inside joke from now on, "you want some tea?" "no thanks" lol :D

When I was a kid & several decades before I ever lived with a parrot, a friend of my mother's told me a story about his parrot. I remember when he got the parrot, it was not friendly & he said he took the bird, in its cage, into the bathroom. He took a book & I belive a snack.

He sat on the floor, opened the parrot's cage, and spent the time reading until the bird felt safe enough to begin to relate to him. [Which is where i learned a lot about how much patience some things take.]

So the parrot bonded to him. He was a violin-maker & the parrot spent a great deal of time in his shop. On several occasions, his wife would knock on the door & hear her husband say, "Just a minute."

And so she waited, getting impatient (until she eventually realized she wasn't really speaking to her husband, after all.)

I don't know if either my mother's friend or his parrot is still alive - I think he told me the story in the late 1960s or early 1970s.

I can tell you my husband has often wondered how I could get from the bedroom (where I was talking to him) to the living room (where I was also talking to him) so quickly . . .

And the answer is I couldn't, but HIS Grey speaks in MY voice.

These birds really ARE amazing!

These birds are uncanny. Sunny talks all the time but you usually know it is a bird talking. She is quite capable of clear speech when she feels the need. We were parked in an RV campground on a hill with no rigs around us. She was sitting in front of our camper on a playstand one day yelling her signature "caw caw macaw" at the top of her lungs, while I got something out of the truck. Below us was a little lake with some canadian geese on it. Apparently their curiosity got the better of them and they flew up to see what that noisy thing was. They swooped down low over her and then landed in some grass on the other side of the truck where she couldn't see them. I heard a clear womans voice say "Hi, how are you? Nice to see you. Come on in." Then "Come're, Come're , come're". I popped my head out from the truck thinking another camper had come to see her. No one in sight. Just Sunny craning her neck trying to get the geese to come back and see her. Poor Sunny. She had completely fooled me, but the geese apparently didn't know what come're meant.

Everyone says Puffin sounds just like me, I however don't think so lol. He always say's " Hi luv" when anyone walks in the front door and "bye luv" when they leave but this was the first time he actually carried on talking and that it made sense.

Today I managed to record him saying " I really want a girlfriend" over and over so if someone can tell me how to get it from my iphone to post here I would love to share it.

So cute when they sound just like us... sure you had a good laugh.
So many times Mishka has called Steven, he comes running into my office and asks what do I want. I just give him a certain look and he knows it was Mishka.
He has taken it a step further and says guys mommy's calling you
You just have to luf their humour

I have 3 boys, twin 10 yr olds and a 4 yr old. So my house is not a quiet one. Jax seems to have picked up on the scream/squeal one of the 10 yr old's 'Kiefer' (although they are identical twins they have slightly different tone of voice) makes at times and I actually told Kiefer off the other day thinking it was him before realising Kiefer was sat right next to me not in the other room.... Oops...
