So, i have a thread titled something like "A Compliment from the heart"

Where i go into detail about why this forum is so awesome and how much i have learned from it.

But i have a problem. I am addicted to it, spending 99% of my free time on it, when im not with my birds. It is cutting in on the very few to begin with hours of sleep that i get per night, I've gone from getting a restful 5 hours to a problematic 2 hours a night because of THIS forum.

And now i am getting to know a few people on here and enjoy the conversations we have and my addiction is getting even stronger, as i bond with strangers birds through video and photo and words.

Any Suggestions? :p

That's very funny Timothy. It's only funny because I know... Many of us here know! Welcome to your new :eek:ADDICTION:eek:

Maybe start a new forum called PFA?

(parrot forums anonymous;)) lololol

I actually never did much online socially on any subject (like I don't have a Facebook or twitter or anything like that), but I joined this forum to get some quick answers when one of my moms birds got sick a few years ago (turned out he had a stroke). The people were so nice, I stuck around... At that point, we were still struggling a bit with Kiwi, so I started asking some questions about him and BAM, I was reeled in;) I've actually learned a lot and this is just one of the friendliest places and everyone is like-minded:) Most non-bird people look at you as though you've grown a second head the moment you start talking about that feathered "decoration" in your living room again:52:

Hhhhmmm... if you REALLY need to cut back you can just say mean horrible things all the time until you get banned? Haha, I am NOT suggesting it though ;)

Once you begin to learn more, you'll look for specific topics. Once that happens you can just drop in and catch up. I look for things I don't know, and i look for new bereavements. Partly because I know how it hurts to lose a friend so I want to help others heal, and partly because I want to know the dangers we face so I can learn from others.

What, you don't want to just do idle chit chat several times everyday too? lol

Hahaha :D

Ha ha heard this story many times before

I too was totally addicted to the forum spent hours and hours on-line.

Set yourself a time limit - and stick to it

LOL, don't worry Timothy! :D You haven't been here for a very long time, right?
I used to spend ALL my free and not so free time here for about first two months of membership, but now I just check in a few times a day (but still spend at least an hour a day!). This is a great forum with great people, and I'm very thankful to belong here. :)

I have found that for me it is important to set real time limits on any social media. Life is short and while I love interacting on forums such as these I don't want it to become or consume my life.

I was like that when I first joined until Halloween died then I took a three year break and brought Speckles home yes he was an impulse buy but that doesn't mean I didn't love him. He unfortunately died 9 days latebut I stayed on and am now the proud owner of a 2 month old white face cockatiel. After a while the newness wears off.

I am also addicted, and am here several times a day. I love to get caught up on what is new with everyone's Fids, and what is new in their lives as well. In addition, I have made several friends here that I am so grateful for, and who will be in my life forever:)
I have never found such a friendly, comforting and informative community as we have here.
There are worse addictions (that is what I tell myself!)

Haha, you guys are funny. Yeah i guess the newness might wear off after a while. But i learn sooo much and its so easy if i have a question that google doesnt help with. And i made a post about my blue and gold's eyes and she got so many compliments it made my heart melt. I read them to her while i had her lay down next to me on the bed (She likes to lay on her back and snuggle. - then she gets ornery like a normal macaw and wants to play rough)

So learning about new bird stuff and being able to brag and get compliments on my wonderful babies has got me hooked!

I don't find they newness wearing off yet...

I know my husband left Thursday and I've done nothing else.It's9 pm. Sunday. Bonita :rainbow1:

I've deleted most of my social media sites and I've found I've been spending a large period of time on this forum reading nearly every thread but I must admit it is a lot more interesting and educational then FarmVille invites.

Haha! This made me laugh

I used to be be a adventurer like you and then I found the parrot forums (and also took an arrow to the knee).

I find that I too m spending more time on the forums. But I am new to birds and am trying to learn as much a possible.

I took a 7 month hiatus from the forum, from February to September this year. As I was raising and training a baby Pan I found that I spent too much time on the forum. I spent the time with my birds and family instead of the computer, and it was a blessing beyond compare. I learned so much about baby Flora Jane, I taught her many words and phrases and a couple tricks. forums are great fun but we all need to limit ourselves so we are productive in all aspects of our lives.

Now that I'm back to the forum, I notice many new members and moderators. Thats the fun of a hiatus, its a whole new world when you come back. In the future, I will probably be checking in for a few months and then take time off again.
