Well when I first decided I wanted a sun I planned on waiting until after we went on vacation in August, see how well that worked out. So now I am worried about leaving her alone while we are gone. We planned on taking the dog but now we think JJ will be coming along.

I have a cat carrier for when we are driving for her to go in, and we can install a perch to it. I was planning on getting a smaller cage for when we are at the house but i'll probably just break down her regular cage and use that.

Am I crazy for bringing her? Will traveling with her do more harm than good? There will also be other people at the house she has never met(my parents, my uncle, my brother and his family).

I know Merlin LOVES roadtrips, he likes the travelling and he likes seeing more people. I don't think it's going to do her "more harm than good", I think she might be a little nervous at first if it's her first time travelling, but otherwise I'm sure she will enjoy it. How is she with 'strange' people? Merlin likes anyone so we never worry about travel.

Conures in general are pretty outgoing and seem to enjoy riding in the car, and meeting new people. Rowdy is my bird who enjoys these activities the most.

And JJ will probably rather be with you and the family than to be at home by herself or in a boarding facility. By August you will probably know how she reacts to meeting new people and going places and can then make the right decision for her.

JJ has really never met new people. She met our neighbors and was just kinda like "whatever". At the vets she was just kinda adhd all over the place. Most the people there aren't animal people so noone would really be associating with her at the house. I just didn't want to leave her home alone and have the neighbors over twice a day to check on her.

Then I'd recommend bringing her, as long as she still gets interaction with you then I'm sure she'll have a good time, it'd be better then her thinking her flocks abandoned her. :)

I always take my birds with me when I go up north to my cabin. They don't mind the trip. Unless your bird is afraid of strangers, I would recommend taking him.

I don't think she is afraid of strangers she will go to anyone I hand her off to. My 5 and 7 year old, my 12 year old stepson she will go to. My neighbor was able to get him with no problems either.

My Skittles loves going for drives, he just sits on my shoulder in the car (which I know is a bit naughty). He loves looking at people through the window as well, probably cause he knows they love looking at him too :D

My only hassle with holidays would be where he would sleep, he doesn't mind sleeping on the couch as long as there's plenty of pillows to hide in, and he's slept with me a few times but I worry i'll squash him. I just don't like the idea of his morning poo being on a bunch of pillows/blankets really

Take her!!! She'll just be happy to be with you, the rest is just icing on the cake. Also, there are some really easy-to-use, easy-to-take-down and roomy travel cage. I have one for Loki that I haven't used on a trip yet, but I have used and he has plenty of room.

It's always good to try and broaden and expand your companion birds environment.
