Thinking about undertaking a huge task...

Yep! Lol my brother isn't in law enforcement but they've quit sending me email :09: there's also the Cameroon scam.......

Thanks for the offer Dopey but I am positive that these are scams, their wording was off in their ads, and why would they post an ad all over MN CL if they are in Maryland? All papers included, utd on shots etc. I told them "what a coincidence, my brother gets off work shortly (he's in law enforcement) and can swing by after work to see your hy, what is your address?" At this point I never hear anything back:54:

This the ad?!

I'm guessing the scammers are running it in every city in the USA. What a coincidence that this bird is in Maryland and San Antonio at the same time, eh?!

Hys and black palm toos generally are not posted on CL... those are sold either through bird brokers, or to someone the person knows.

That same add was running here a couple weeks ago! Funny how they were in Oregon, now they're in Texas!

That ad has been running all over the country (simultaneously) for about two years now...

They must be getting some money because otherwise you would think they would stop.

CL ads are free, and it's kind of like fishing... you put it out there, and hope somebody is gullible enough to bite.

They run the same ad in EVERY subsection of Georgia. Atlanta, Savannah, Macon, Augusta, Columbus - they hit them all.

And yes they google pics of the Hy to use in their posts. If you're on a regular computer or laptop, you can drag the actual photo into a google search bar to find matching images online. That will probably show you two sources - where the scammer got the pic from, and the CL ad they used it in.

Another REALLY good way to find these ads, is by the reply email. Most people use the Craigslist email relay. But if you ever click the very last link in an email sent through that relay, it allows you to actually flag the EMAIL MESSAGE as harassment, scam, spam, threatening, etc. And after so many flags within a certain time frame, your email address CAN be banned from craigslist. These scammers don't want those extra flags, so they post a direct email. And it's always a "common" name at either gmail or yahoo with some numbers. I think one of the latest names is Pedro, a common hispanic name.

Let's play what if. What if you have a bunch of hys on your property. You cannot live forever so what happens to them in the future? Most sanctuaries are full. How many people are willing to take in "older" birds to start? These birds have special needs and diet. In reality, how many people are going to provide. Will you give them away or sell them when you are not able to care for them? Many people have a rehome fee just to be sure the owners can afford them. I do not understand the logic. Anyway, rehome fee, huge cage, huge toys and perches, and special palm nut diet available by mail only. Rescues cannot find homes as it is for smaller birds so how do you find a forever home for the largest macaw on the planet?
