Rickeybirrrrrrrrrd! Happiest of happy birthdays, big fella!

Gail, you are the most amazing of humans. Most stories that begin with “I bought him on impulse when he was a chick” don’t end with “and today were celebrating his 35th bday” Thank you for never giving up on him and for being such a shining example of what it means to be owned by a bird.

NOoooooo, friends, the Rb is definitely not a role model for anybody but himself. It really has been a long road, and thanks (now and always) for all the support... and it has been made so so SO much easier since we (and the Rival) landed here!!! Gee, Tami, that's a gorgeous bird, and what the Rb lacks in manners, smarts and charm he really does make up in plumage (thank Gawd, every creature needs at least SOME redeeming characteristics. Yes, yes, I'm giving him nonstop chiles, all day. He finishes one and gets another. Gee, things surely are quieter. Maybe he should have birthdays more often...

Gail, I truly think Inger has really hit the truth here. You not only bought a parrot as a chick on impulse, but you did it when you were young, before you had gone through college, before you settled down, and you got a large conure species known for being loud and obnoxious. You did everything we tell everyone not to do because it almost always ends up with the bird on the curb.

But not with you and Sir Rickybird. For 35 years, you've stuck it out, even when time was tight and things were hard. Plus you've managed to put up with the RB for that long and that is something in itself. :p

Most amazing of all, and the mark of a true parront saint, you didn't get rid of or force the RB to change to make things work, you changed yourself and your expectations.

I raise a glass to you Gail, and my flock feasts on chili peppers and mayhem tonight!

This is very cool! I applaud you for being an amazing parront to the Rickey Bird for all these years!
Happy 35th Hatch Day little guy!

Happy birthday to the RB!

I have to echo this 1000x over. We hear of so many sad stories through the years and when you see a story like this- its to be cherished because it is so rare. But its possible.

Its funny though, ironically i mean- sometimes people get a bird on impulse or when they least expect it and it all works out as though it was meant to be. Then you have stories of people who 'plan' everything out and it doesn't turn out like they thought and the bird suffers. It just goes to show that sometimes the "planning" is misguided. People "plan out" what THEY want from their bird and not what they need to do FOR their bird.

The rival must be reeling with jealousy for all the attention the RB is getting! lol. Well, I'd like to send out some thoughts on that - haha, haha, nanner nanner, birdy comes first! lol Sorry, I couldn't resist. hehe

Spirit, SDaddy, we've known each other for a good while now, haven't we, just as with Inger, and your sweet remarks will stick with me. There's no predicting stuff sometimes. My own story is so foolish in so any ways... the Rb has probably taught me some patience/tolerance for others' mis-steps, if nothing else. Little goon.
