The HARDEST part will be having to say "good bye" again, and I just won't say those words...I will tell him how much I love him and that I will see him later.

He'll be going back to Officer Candidate School, which is a 3 month course. Following that he'll be doing more schools, so it will be a LONG while before I see him again.

I have to keep reminding myself that this is what he wanted to do, and all his letters (25 and counting) reflect he's loving each and every minute of it.

My brother recently signed up, we were home-schooled together and we have always been very close. I understand what you are going through. The hardest part is trying to be happy for him when I want to scream at him not to go. I recently had to euthanize my dog. Ive had her since I was a small child. I was talking about making the decision to my mom while getting ready to move across the country for my PhD. I started crying, just overwhelmed from the whole situation, and Callie my anxious and misbehaved TB just wrapped herself around me in a hug. It was the strangest thing. She had the deepest look of concern in her face. Its the gentlest shes ever been with me. She wouldnt let my mom near me. We suspect she thought it was my mom who made me cry, and she was protecting me. People who dont have animals will never understand just how powerful the love is, in both directions.

Now I need a box of tissues. I love your story Wendy. Our feathered friends are like having angels among us. There's no doubt in my mind that their ability to understand and sense emotions is of such a high level that researchers wouldn't even be able to convice grant-givers to fund the research for fear they would sound like loons trying to explain this about birds.
