The night parrot, thought this might be interesting :)

Do you think there are "extinct" animals living out in the remote regions?

So recently the Australian night parrot was rediscovered after only a few reported sightings spanning nearly a century. I just thought it was amazing that a bird thought by many to be extinct is still flying around out there in the outback, gives hope for some other "extinct" animals. I've always wondered :34:if the Tasmanian tiger is completely extinct, as there are huge areas of Tasmanian bush that very few if any people actually go to. Maybe somewhere out there is a few living Tasmanian tigers left:45:.

So what do you guy's or gal's think, do you think there are any "extinct" animals still clinging on in remote parts of the globe? Those night parrots are super cute too. :greenyellow::)Anyway came across the story and thought i would share it.

Well... I HOPE it's true... I really do. What an exciting and Romantic idea --- "lost" species rediscovered! As Ian Malcolm in JURASSIC PARK speculates, "Life finds a way".
Thanks for these links!

Congratulations Gail on becoming a moderator! Yeah, that's a nice way to put it. Jurassic park, a true movie classic :).

I definitely think it's a possibility. New species are discovered all the time, so I don't see why species that were previously thought to be extinct wouldn't be rediscovered at least on occasion. The world is an awfully big place.

I also think those babies are adorable! They almost look like linnies to me.

Yeah they certainly do look like linnies or grass parrot's which i suspect they are closely related to! :greenyellow:

I would hope there are pockets of "extinct" or endangered animals out of the clutches of humans. While we have a huge impact globally, there are some areas that are not well surveyed.

Hi William

Indeed the rediscovery of the Night Parrot is an amazing thing. But they hang on to a fragile existence and are threatened by feral cats and perhaps foxes too.

It is unlikely that we can rediscover any extinct parrot now; but if at all the Glaucous Macaw could throw a surprise though all recent rigorous surveys in the region point out to its being extinct.

The Spix's macaw was thought to be fully gone from the wild till a video footage emerged showing a single bird flying around.

cheers
