Hello! I wanted to share videos I uploaded on Boomer's Youtube channel. This is us doing a little indoor recall training. We've been doing this regularly for 3 months now. Most days he's got it, some days he just doesn't care. LOL! This is one of those days where he just seems a bit distracted, I think it's because I was holding the camera in one hand. He wasn't waiting for his queue. He pulled through in the end.

These next videos might seem a bit reckless so I do not encourage it, don't be mad! I was confident enough in his indoor training so I felt that it was about time we take it outdoors. So I took him out of his backpack for a short while but not before making sure the coast was clear. It's not something I plan to do on a regular basis, but I will increase in frequency, the more indoor training we do. You could barely hear me giving out commands so I put text bubbles. A big thanks to Chris for taking the video and for sustaining a couple of aerial attacks from my deranged Technicolor chicken!

Personally, I thought that was awesome! I just love boomers voice!

He's so good!!! My bird will come no matter what, but he will stick to me like glue when I'm trying to get him OFF! Hahaha Any advice on training that? :p

Thanks, Kali! The video's audio does not capture Boomer's voice in all it's sun conure splendor. I think that if you heard him in person, you might change your mind. Haha!

Honestly, that is exactly like Boomer. He is such a velcro bird. STAY is the hardest thing to teach him. I teach him to stay the same time I do recall training. When he stays on his perch long enough until I say COME, then I reward with a treat and a praise. If he flies before his queue, I just say NO and take him back to his perch to try again. We've a long way to go, but I relish the little victories here and there. :D

Other than that, I just do the regular STEP UP command to get him off me. On days when he is being his stubborn conure self, I'll say NO and wiggle my shoulders a bit till he gets the idea. This lasts for about a second until he velcros himself to me again.

I meant getting to step off your hand!! Haha I understand how it works, but its so frustrating and cute all at the same time!!! Boomer is very good, even though he has slip ups, it's better than some people's birds. :) Keep it up and I can wait to see more!!!
