Living in Australia, I am really lucky that I get to share this place with lots of beautiful birds and parrots :) Here are some photos from around Aus (All photos taken by myself), some are quite old so excuse the camera quality. Many come into our backyards (well when I had a backyard lol) and will come right up to you and eat from your hand. Feel free to add photos of your local birds too, I would really love to see them!! :)

In New South Wales around my local area:

I get very excited when I see Birds of Prey as they aren't common around here. I often see kite's out in farming areas and have seen a few owls here and there!

Also Magpies. I just <3 Magpies. I know they aren't a favoured bird by some, as they do swoop to protect their nests in spring time. But they have the most beautiful song, and will often come and sit on my balcony and sing. :)

They're beautiful pictures. :) I'm quite jealous now. We have a few blackbirds that feed in our yard and I've seen one that looks similar to a blue bird. And a hawk every now and then. Where I live, you don't see many birds. :( At least not in the city.

I did however see a beautiful pair of birds snacking on something at the gas station. One was feeding the other. I think it was a male/female pair. It was so sweet.

And this is a photo my partner took, while he was at work in the city, of some cheeky lorrikeets getting stuck into the sugar at a cafe!

Awwww that would have been cute! I remember when I went to America I saw hardly any birds, mostly pigeons and some wild roosters haha! We have all types of birds everywhere here, even parrots in the city! They are super cute, but the downside is they are also super noisy. :p The cockatoo's especially, love to squawk in a flock outside your window, usually around sunrise or sunset lol!

No problems guys! :) Glad you like them! I will be on the hunt for more wild birdy photos and I'll add them to this thread as I snap them!

I saw a really amazing sight a few months ago. I was commenting on the foolishness of a squirrel that ventured out onto the beach at a restaurant, when out of nowhere a hawk swooped down nabbed him. Sad for the squirrel but amazing to see. I'm amazed at the effectiveness of the birds of prey. Your pictures are great, enjoy all the beauty nature has provided you.

I love this thread! Thanks! Imagine being able to look outside and see those beauties living wild.

Does anyone here live where macaws are wild that could post a couple pics?

Thank you for the pictures! The first pics of those red/blue red/green ones are so stunning! Are they Rosellas?

We get big birds of prey out here in the boonies. Red-tail hawks, turkey buzzards, and around the lakes, ospreys, an occassional bald eagle. I've seen golden eagles once. There's another hawk I have yet to ID that has a lot of white on it.

Gorgeous pictures. The biggest thing I miss from living in Oz is the birds. So many stunning varieties. British wild birds are cool but not a patch on the Aussie birds :)

I LOVE that sugar photo. :) "Service please, at table 38".

I LOVE the the sugar photo, you Aussies are so lucky!

I do have a question, what is the average person's reaction to all of these different parrots over there? Are there more parrot owners, is it like dogs - does everyone have one? Are they welcomed by the locals or is everyone so used to them that a rosella is looked at like a boat tailed crackle over there? Just curious on the average persons thoughts on all these wild parrots being every where?

Thanks everyone! :) The red and blue are crimson rosella's! There are also yellow ones too! The Red and green ones are King parrots :)

I love the photo of them getting stuck into the sugar too, the lorri's are so cheeky.

I guess most people are just used to the birds here and don't really appreciate them. I have loved birds ever since I was young as my dad always brought me up to be around them and have them as companions, so I always took an interest in the wildlife birds. I don't know many people with pet birds to be honest, only those who I have met from this forum and a couple of friends. I think that the tourists are more interested in the local wildlife then most of the people who live here. But everytime we go driving and I see them I call them all out and get excited lol!

@molcan. A lot of families have budgies but not really the big parrots. In some areas the birds are seen as a nuisance. In others price of property is more expensive with wildlife. Or like me who sees them as just everyday life. People usually love having kookobaras near them though. I used to know someone who lived in a caravan park and it had its own flock of corrella which came to be fed by the oldies. In pet stores here its rare to see anything larger than a cockateil
