Has anyone heard of this place . It is in washington state and flocks the birds, apparently this results in happier cockatoos. Before we consider this place for our two rescue birds, i am looking for any reference information available.:21:

Hello: I was also interested in this Cockatoo Rescue and Sanctuary. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge on the facility? I have a 25 year old Goffin that I believe has outlived our usefulness and would be much happier with more Goffins. Anything we try to do for him does not make him happy any more. He screams all night (when he is suppose to be asleep) keeping the other FIDS awake. He just seems very grumpy. We have tried working with him for over a year and he is just getting worse and bites all the time. If anyone has any information of the Rescue, please let me know. I would truly appreciate it. Thank you.

mytoos.com boards will help you best.....ask there.

Hope my kids never say that about me

I was thinking the same thing. The bird is having an issue with something. Might be hormonal most likely. But to cast you bird away because you can`t figure him out. I have taken several unwanted cockatoos in because of misbehavior and they all have turned into great birds.
Now you know why we have so many birds in the rescues.

MY KID SAYS THAT ABOUT ME NOW!!! :D

If it's the one I am thinking of, we placed about a dozen birds there four years ago, and they are thriving... but I thought they were full up and weren't taking on anymore.

Really that is what I was thinking. I hope when she is old he kids say she has outlived her usefulness and put her in a real crappy nursing home!
Seriously!

I would suggest that people don't attack FIDMOMMY for her comment about 'usefulness' etc. This is a new member, and it sounds the bird is unhappy, and the owner is unhappy, and so if this person is looking to place this bird in a place where there is hope of happiness for the bird, then isn't that really the best choice that person could make - and responsible? I mean she could have taken the craigslist route to make money, etc. so all in all I'm happy she's asking the questions she is even if I found her wording distant. I mean what's best for the bird?

It was just the wrong choice of words, when I read it, I went back go "WHAT?" BUT at least she is trying to be responsible to find the bird a good place to live. A lot of rescues are full of Cockatoos and a lot of them aren't taking anymore in.

I completely agree Mikey, I just didn't want to scare her off, it could be a member of this forum would be interested in providing that bird a great home.

Does anyone have any info/references for The Cockatoo Rescue and Sanctuary? This whole thread just became an attack on someone and never actually answered the question...

Um...4 year old thread, half the posters don’t even participate anymore. Not sure why there should be a relitigation of a thread few actually participated in.

Sadly cockatoorescue.org is no longer functioning. The owner passed away in mid March 2022. As did many of her rescued cockatoos.
Not all sanctuaries are this bad. Most have plans in place if the owners dies. This one did not

Such an old Thread! But it has a useful Story Line. The reality of such places surviving is 100% on the health and financial resources the owner has. All such Avian activities have such a cycle of life. The great hope is that they reduce the number of Parrots to what they can handle.
Again, such an old Thread.

I happen to live in the area and have some friends on socials who knew the woman running this rescue, and it was a huge tragedy. I believe she may have had brain cancer, and it’s possible that altered her thinking enough that when she was no longer able to care for the animals she did not reach out to the large network of rescues and people ready to step in quietly and help. Dementia is scary and it’s clear she didn’t have enough help or oversight.

This doesn’t excuse what happened, of course. The crazy thing is that people who homed their parrots with her DID research her extensively, and she used to have a board and volunteers. I believe that those folks however were no longer in the picture when this happened, for whatever reason. I’ve also read that local rescues reached out to her repeatedly and didn’t hear anything until animal control called them in.

This was hard to read, how absolutely awful.
That one cockatoo who was left, he has to be traumatized. I hope he finds a wonderful home.
