I wanted to know what the best diet for Java, my dusky conure would be. I know that fruits and veggies daily are important but I can never keep fresh produce in my fridge for long.
How do you make the veggies and fruit last?
Can you freeze them for later?
Should they be cut in small pieces?

As for the seed diet I get a bag of different stuff all the time...i don't know what is best. Right now I have Premium L'Avian Plus Nutritionally Fortified parrot food. The most ingredients in the bag are safflower seed, sunflower seed, corn, oat groats, millet. To many sunflower seeds are not good right? He eats almost everything not just the sunflower seeds.

My bird was just very sick and he will be done with his antibiotics on monday but I want to make sure I'm giving him the right diet so he feels his best. Thanks everyone!

:green2: Java says thanks :D and gives kisses for the advice :10::10::10:

If you study avain nutrition you will find that birds should not have a seed diet. It is best to offer seed as a treat only. My bird gets about 1 tbsp. per week of sunflower free hookbill seed. (volkmans). For the fresh vegies I cook them (my bird only eats them cooked) and make a mash of the vegies, grains, legumes, spices, and other ingredients that is good for them. Then you can freeze the mash in small portions. If you are not into cooking that much there are freeze dried mixes out there that are very good. Here is where I purchase these:
All Bird Toys nutritious healthy food treats gifts parts

You may want to ask your vet about a probiotic to give your bird after antibiotic treatment. I have learned that probiotics are species specific. If you can get your bird onto Harrisons High Potency pellets fine you will be doing him a big favor. Good luck and watch the seeds, and peanuts. They are no no's. The best place to purchase Harrisons is on thesafebirdstore (best price)

Well, now I'm totally confused.
Bought a bag of parrot food from PetCo and it's full of seeds, sunflower seeds and peanuts.

What is best food for a Jenday conure?
We will cook food and freeze it in small daily packets if necessary.
We want to do what is best for the bird.

Thank you.

Robert and Liang Zai will thank you.

Sorry but the bird food sold in pet stores is usualy full of sunflower seeds and peanuts in shells, both are serious no no's.
I do purchase seed in small quantities for treats and buy volkmans sunflower seed free hookbill seeds. Conures are hookbills. I hope you give your Jenday pellets. I prefer the ones that do not have any dyes and are organic like Harrisons.

ParrotFeather.com - Jenday Conure

Hope this is helpful
