Ever since I got Bella and Zora, and now I have Oliver, I've been cleaning bird cages every Saturday. What has it been now... 8 months? Every Saturday for 8 months I've been spending the whole afternoon, scrubbing, rinsing, sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping the walls, ceiling, fids cages, and around the cages.

And I wouldn't trade it for anything!!! :D I think it's strange that my friends are going to the mall. Shouldn't everyone be cleaning pellets and flung fruit on Saturday? Seems completely normal... LOLOLOL!!!

And to think that I'll be doing this for 30+ years.... :11:

Only bird people will understand... :p

I think Im just a smidge :31: (ok alot) older than you, but I feel the same way. Between the light cleaning every night and the big cleaning on the weekend my husband thinks Ive totally lost it! And I only have ONE little Fid to clean up after!

I commend you for being responsible for your fids, I wish more young people would be like you. There is still time to have fun, but when you say you will take on the responsibility of another life, be it animal or human, you have to step up! GOOD FOR YOU!! :D :D :D

Thanks Rio. :D I honestly don't mind cleaning cages, and cleaning the strawberries off the ceiling is always fun, I'm not kidding. :p Like said before, I wouldn't trade it for the world. :D

Ok, now its official, your crazy! when scraping ANYTHING off the celing is fun, yup your certifiable!! LOL Isnt it ahmazing where they can fling that stuff though?!? I have long blinds by Sunshines cage and he flings stuff inbetween the slats that are tight together cause its open. How the heck?!? :D  And when Im sternly talking to him about it while Im chisiling it off he looks at me like I'M the crazy one!!!! :D

Well, it's more funny than fun. You on a ladder and have a mop in one hand, the other hand guarding your face from the falling water... LOL! They somehow manage to get flung mash behind my couch!!! How?!?!

Haha, I'm with you ^^ I change paper in the cage every single day and once a week I scrub, scrub, scrub :p Because Louis likes to share his food with walls and floors ^^

Yup, weekend scrubbing... time consuming for sure. It's always fun trying to give your walls and ceiling a bath...... -.-

I put up a thin plastic table cloth from one of the big box party stores. hung it on the painted wall that one of Pritti's playpens is next to (on a stand). When flung food gets stuck on it and dries, it sort of just wipes off -- it doesn't stick and become part of the wall like on paint. So cleaning it is soooooooo much easier. Just take a towel or brush and swpipe it over the crusty stuff and it falls t the ground.

I also have one on the floor under the stand.

I hear you! Well, it's mostly cleaning up things from all my siblings (I'm the oldest of 12), since my conure isn't TERRIBLY messy, but I would much rather be at home making the place spic and span, rather than doing "normal" weekend activities (shop, eating out, etc.). I've already told my boyfriend since I don't buy new clothes and eat out, I want to put that money towards my birdies! So, I'm a bit "off my rocker" by stereotype standards...

And I'm already used to taking care of several children at once (not to mention several of them have diseases that need constant monitoring...), so the birds fit right on in my schedule! I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I wasn't doing something "stressful". Haha.

Lol... I put a grid of newspaper round the cages but they they still manage to fling things. Aww, but their cuteness makes it up. :D

I just got a pair of GCC and my theory has been to only have pellets in their cage and feed them their special stuff on the play gym (because the bowls are right in the centre and they spend all day on the play gym anyway). Any mess should theoretically drop onto the play gym. Theoretically... but these are intelligent feather monkeys we are talking about here. ;)

They take their favourite bits and walk to the edge of the play gym and drop it off the side. :/ LOL
Then they look longingly at it sitting on the floor... I can almost see them shrugging their little birdy shoulders and turning around to get another morsel and repeating the process all over again.

So every afternoon I mop and vacuum around the cage. Its better than having to scrub the bars of the cage more often though :p Mopping is easy in comparison.

I thought to myself originally, I couldn't do an eclectus diet... too hard. Too messy.
Then here I am preparing a fresh breakfast & dinner of fruits, vegies, nuts and seed for my conures anyway and scrubbing the floor daily.... thinking how fun it would be to have an eclectus as well :p I even cooked them up some scrambled egg yesterday.

WOW I've gone nuts with the rest of you.

Sunday before work is my major cleaning day. When the weather is good, the cage, stand, and plastic floor mats go outside for a powerwash but now that it's cold, I have to scrub by hand. Our vacuum has been broken so all week I've been stepping on pellets, broken barrel beads, almond pieces, and other food items. And since I've added the tree in my room, I've got little branches EVERYWHERE! I live in a forest but for the leaves and other wild fauna. Still wouldn't trade it for the world and for my age (22) I'm crazy. I should be out getting drunk and "having fun".

I'll take my girls over people my age anyday. Better company by far. Probably more intelligent too.

I'm exactly like you. Since I'm only eleven people expect me to be at each over houses , watching movies and stuff. Now instead of that I'm cleaning poop off the walls, HOW THE HECK DID POOP GET ON THE WALL?Every body knows me by crazy birdy girl. I proudly defend my title LOL but still, how can a little, fluffy budgie get poop on the wall? Do they spot shoot or somthing ? Hmm...

Zora is an amazing poop shooter. She aims for the hard to clean ridges of the windowsill. :31: Thanks.., ;)
