Teaching Freddie to be Gentle

I've been doing short sessions daily with Fred. I don't think Fred was ever taught how hard is too hard. He's learning quickly....

Well done Sharon. I watched your other videos too and Freddie is such a clown at times. He must be a joy to be around.

Mike, you're not going to have a problem. Kindness, and firmness...that's all it is.

I do have to say that I seem to have little trouble with animals of any kind. I've been able to interact with aggressive dogs, and totally surprise the owners. I'm not sure what it is...but my father and sister have it too. My Dad can interact on a different level than most, with wild animals. He's had wild birds choose to follow him around, and wild animals have very little fear of him...it's a little weird.

Sharon, your video is awesome! Freddy has completely picked up on your "not a threat" vibe, and obviously trusts you a lot! Nothing would surprise me with Freddy at this point. He could end up being a real cuddle bunny (by Amazon standards ).

I do expect that he will be much gentler than I had hoped...I sometimes allow him short periods on my shoulder, which I thought I'd never do! Cuddling with Fred does not seem as "out of the question" as it once did. In fact, I think he'd like it now, as he's rubbed his cheek in mine on occassion....I'm going slow though. I need to be a little more sure of him, before I regularly allow him close to my face!

Thanks! I think Fred deserves most of the credit...he really is a very special bird! His intelligence amazes me, and it makes it easy to work with him...
