I've just discovered that my galah is out there talking away to herself. She doesn't usually say much to me, or talks when I'm there (maybe she can't get a word in edgeways ) I decided to have a bath in the middle of the afternoon and her cage is on the patio outside the bathroom window. I could hear all of this bird talking and I later sneaked to the back door and she's sitting there talking alone. She was saying different things, not just "hello".

Why doesn't she want to talk to me?

Birds are shy little creatures and refrain from speaking to us humans in the begining.
She is probably practicing on her own, in time she will open up and talk.

I don't think it was her who was talking to herself, I think it was one of the budgies.... It happened again and I peeked out and she didn't seem to be doing anything. I think it was a budgie.

Anyway, as for talking to me, I found out that a very big motivator is me eating. I had my lunch in front of her yesterday and I got "hello, hello, hello" all through. I've heard her saying other things than "hello", but I'm not really sure what it is she's saying. Not the things I've been repeating to her, it sounds like she's picked up something else I say (hopefully not swearing...).
