Taking Rosie to Santa Cruz today

My friend wants to go to natural bridges, and I've always wanted to take Rosie to the beach for photo opportunities. I haven't taken her before because it's usually a all day thing and that would be a bit much for her. we aren't leaving until 3. I'll post the photos I take here when I get home tonight

Natural bridges is a beautiful, and well photographed, beach. My friends and I don't really go there because it's small and the tide is stronger. We prefer Sea Bright beach(swimming), or four mile beach(exploring tide pools). In winter and fall their are thousands of monarch butterflies in the park too, so cool seeing them.

Finally putting these up. My internet was being difficult so it took a while.

Natural Bridges ended up being very windy, nearly too windy for Rosie. She flew four times, once landing on the ground because I couldn't get her to come back to my hand. After that I kept her leash nice and short. Reminds me why I have the harness in the first place

I took this to show how windy it was.

I took advantage of the wind to do a recall from my friends arm. I like doing recall in the wind so Rosie can learn how to fly in it. This time she was lifted up above me, then hovered down. I didn't take any photos of her flying so I could focus on her alone

The surf was really strong today, their was a sign that said to stay out of the water but people went in anyway.

When there was a break in the wind I queued her to put her wings up. The signal is that I put two fingers up

After that we walked up to the visitor center(which was closed) then along the monarch trail. During fall/winter the trail is full of thousands of monarch butterflies.

I liked that it is surrounded by eucalyptus, smelled amazing. I wondered if Australia looked similar at all - minus the poison oak.

After that we drove to the wharf

I got clam chowder and a sourdough bread bowl to go

A ritual for Santa Cruz is that we always go to Marian's Ice cream, they have around 76 flavors that are all made down the street. The employees loved her

Then Rosie had a snack as we ate our ice cream.
Her wing looks a bit greasy in the pic because of a spray I'm using called avix soother spray, she's molting heavily right now and she's plucked a few blood feathers around her elbow. The spray seems to help a little.
