Tail Feathers????

I have had Prissy for 2 months now. She had lost all but a couple of her tail feathers before I brought her home. It wasn't long after that they were all gone. It has been two months and no signs of her tail feathers coming in! She is now 4 1/2 months old. She has been molting since I got her. I noticed today that her wings (which were butchered are starting to grow back) She has 2 wing feathers that have come in. Poor baby... I feel so sorry for her. she has a hard time balancing because her wing clip is HORRIBLE and she has NO TAIL! Poor thing tries to fly and just falls to the floor with a hard thud. She does this in her cage as well.

My question is... How long is it supposed to take for her tail and wings to grow in? I am more concerned with her tail because I see no signs of growth :17:

I am feeding her Harrison's high potency and lots of fruit (some veggies if I am lucky enough for her to eat them) I also mix seeds in with her pellets as a treat a couple of times a week. I can't give them daily because she is a seed junkie!

Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I am a first time Mommy. I do have 2 Conures but both are still babies. Thankfully my other baby's wings weren't butchered. His wings are clipped but he can still fly (he doesn't get lift but can fly down very well)

It all depends on when she last molted. It could be months or it could be up to a year. I have a sun with two broken tail feathers. I trimmed off most of the broken feather but he's had those two broken pieces for months now.

When Jayde was in her foster home for 6 months she didn't molt at all. I don't know what her flights were like when her foster mom got her, but she said that her a-vet evened up Jayde's flights.

When Jayde got here, it took her two weeks before she started loosing feathers! It's been nearly four months since she came here and she's still molting!


Left Wing - all those primary feathers on the outer edge of her wing were clipped.

Right Wing - Same thing as left wing, except the middle long primary feather (the one by itself) with the black going up the quill - that was there when she came here.

Not the best of photos, but this is when she first got here... you can see she doesn't have any of her primary flights.

Compared to this shot.... you can see the flights that have grown.

Since the newest photos have been taken, she has lost another two clipped feathers, and I don't know which ones those are yet! Still waiting for them to grow out!

I would be rather surprised if she molted all of her flights, but I doubt she'll have a full set of flight feathers until next year. It's starting to get rather cold so molting season should be coming to an end! (we'll see about that! LOL)
