Those are great photos and I love the squirrel story. I wouldn't trust my birds outside without their outside cage. To many hawks.
WHEN I LIVED IN NORCAL WE HAD TO BE VERY CAREFUL GOING OUTSIDE DURING NESTING SEASON.
The hawks get very aggressive that time of year. The rest of the year, if you were close by they didn't seem to be a problem.
