I finally started working on this project last Monday; it's been a project on the back burner since last fall when I salvaged the grape stumps and branches when my in-laws transplanted their vines. Well, having a garage now really makes building things like this easy :)

This is what I managed to save...

And then I cut off all the roots and gross parts...

Then they got scrubbed and power washed, and this jaw horse is a really neat tool that made this job a bit easier

I put it together using untreated sisal twine tightly wrapped around the branches to keep them together. Knowing that the branches will get destroyed, I wanted to make it somewhat easier to dismantle and replace branches later on if I needed to. I used uncoated stainless steel cable secured with SS clamps and quick links attached to SS eye screws on each end.

We hung it up in her corner and I wrapped/covered the sisal with strips of tshirt- the whole time she wanted out of her cage (lol) but I wanted to get everything done to it so I wasn't in her way lol I finally finished and let her check it out- she LOVES it! She inspected every inch, every toy, and even had a ball stripping the bark lol

(I think she's smiling in this one lol)

I'm pretty happy with how this project turned out, and most of all that she likes it- I have enough pieces to make at least 1, maybe 2 more :)

That's awesome! We have a neighbor that makes/builds all kinds of scuptures out of grapevines. They gave us a loveseat made out of the vines before. I want to ask him if they are actually "grapevines", or just wild vines, and if they are safe for my birds I want to have him make a stand for them. Your's looks really great!

Shirre, WOW! That turned out amazing! No wonder Chili loves it, it is fit for a Queen for sure:) You could so make those and sell them if you had lots of wood to use, it looks so much better than what is available to buy!

Just make sure the vines have never been sprayed with any pesticides or other chemicals- if he's not absolutely sure, then I wouldn't risk it... But he could always harvest some other type of bird-safe branches and do the same thing. :)

Thanks Terry! [emoji4] I think I spent maaaaybe $20 total on this project- and it was for the hardware, everything else I had on hand. Compared to how much java stands cost I think I made out pretty good! Lol [emoji6]

You (and Chili) definitely made out! $20?!?!?!
Incredible! And you got it done really quickly as well:)

Awesome! I bet Chili's going to get a whole lot of use out of that!

Thanks guys! [emoji4] I plan on making another one slightly smaller that will go in our room, and then either use the rest as perches or make one to donate to a bird in need...

One of our pear trees just got a much needed "hair cut" yesterday so now I have plenty of smaller branches to make something for the budgies [emoji4]

It's amazing how much money you can save on bird stuff when you can make it yourself!

Wow! That turned out great!

Chili's corner is expanding lol next thing is a cage upgrade for her- we're thinking a macaw sized one for her day cage and using this cal cage as a sleep cage... Or maybe as a spare in case our flock expands at some point [emoji6][emoji4]

Is that a baby gate around Chilli's corner? That space looks AWESOME!

wonderful setup and a really well-made hanging gym!!:) would love to have some projects like this for my fids~~
