Sun Conure or Senegal?

Hi,

The other day I was at Petco buying food for my CAG and I saw the sweetest sun conure!! She was very tame and friendly, and of course beautiful. I was smitten and am thinking of getting a sun but I also have the opportunity to get a baby Senegal. I know that conures can be very loud. Are they louder than an African Grey? Our CAG makes a lot of noise occasionally when she wants attention or when we are watching a movie and she is not with us. She is also very grumpy and bites!! I love her but would like to have a bird that is a little more cuddly! Just interested in folks' opinions of these two species.

Thanks so much!

Welcome to the forum!

Sun conures can be very loud lol.

I taught mine "no shout" though and instead of screaming she sounds like a little smoke alarm running out of batteries....beeep.....beeeeeeep.......lol.

It all depends how much time you can spend with them really. She is however, my very cuddly velcro bird.

i have a blue crowned conure and she can screech for england first thing in the morning! i don't know much about senegals but there's one in the petshop that lets you scratch his head x

Yes Petco and Petsmart carry these birds because they are so beautiful. but they are very loud. They also ask a high price which makes them lots of profit. I would take a senegal in a flash. They are very very nice birds.

I happen to have one of each! Nicky, my sun conure, is very loud but extremely cuddly and playful! Gracie, my senegal, is much more calm and doesn't really like to cuddle but is a real sweetheart (for the most part haha). She can be unpredictable sometimes though. One minute she will let me scratch her neck, the next she'll start growling at me. Both birds love attention but Nicky will demand it more while Gracie is able to easily occupy herself.

I prefer buying pets from a breeder or rescuing them rather than getting them from a pet store. I too have fallen in love with a sun conure at a Petco while getting food for my own birds so I know it's tempting. Just follow your heart and I know you will make the right decision.
