Sun conure feeding

I recently picked up my three month old sun conure. I was told they were done with hand feeding and eat on their own. I forgot to ask if the people started my bird on pellets or seeds. Tata (sun conure I’m taking about) enjoys the chopped veggies I gave them but doesn’t touch the pellets. I tried the apple juice trick today and it worked a tiny bit. Any ideas?

Update
I called the place and they said they mostly feed seeds, fruit/veg, and pellets. (Amount of food gets smaller going down that list.) The lady said the baby birds need seeds to keep their weight up, is that true?

You’ll find a lot of birds can get picky about pellets. They’ll eat one brand but turn their nose up at other brands. You may have to try a few different brands and types before you settle on one tata will accept. Some may take to Harrison’s right away, otehers won’t touch it. Some will love goldenfeast goldn’obles, while others will only accept TOPs.

What pellets are you currently feeding?

You might also try covering them in something like coconut oil or red palm oil. Or peanut butter!

Totally agree with Chris - they can be finicky about pellets and often you just have to find the right one. I feed TOPs, Roudybush, Zupreem natural, Zupreem fruity, and Lefaber. Of course, none of my birds could like the same pellets :). Most of mine took to the pellets after a few tries, some of them I mixed a little bit of seed into the pellets to convince them that it was food.

I have zupreem natural in conure size and zupreem fruit blend a bird size down because my green cheeks seemed to work better with that size.
