Hey there, this is just a question if anyone has any ideas on what might be happening? or if this is even anything to worry about?
I have a 23 year old Indian ringneck parakeet, his name is squiggy. normally he wakes up with the sun rise and such, we have him in the same enclosure as 2 cockatiels, and never really close the cage door as they have their own bedroom and so they wake up with the sunrise, come out and hang out, then go back in at dusk and go to sleep, etc.
anyways. last week he started waking up extremely early. like sometimes as early as 12am/2am. im not really sure why this is happening, i usually try to be quiet so that he is not bothered or loses sleep at night. as far as i can tell when we check on him, he seems fine otherwise, one time it was because one of the cocketiels forgot to go in at night and so he was yelling at him (then we helped the tiel back inside to sleep) but usually they're also asleep when he wakes up. the only other thing i can think of is maybe the night light we got for the tiels because they seem to get night frights sometimes and it seems to make them feel better. but maybe its making his sleep irregular? we just took it out today so i guess we'll see if it makes a difference. but should i be worried? i know he's getting very old at this point, at 23. do elderly parrots have sleep issues?
if it is the night light its strange though because we've had it for several months and he seemed to be sleeping normally and so its not a new change to the room that would possibly be making him suddenly bothered.
