Early this afternoon I got a call from a friend who said she found a little Chihuahua in the street near the local traffic circle (a lot of traffic!) She coaxed the dog to her and brought her to my house. We fed her and held her while waiting for animal control. She appeared cared for, sweet, clean, well-fed and wearing a collar, so I assumed her owner was most definitely looking for her.

I posted some pics to my facebook, and got a comment from someone who was helping by going through the neighborhood near the circle, looking for her family. He said that he saw a man with two big dogs in the same area where this Chihuahua was found, waiting for animal control. Now I am worried that she could have been doggy dumped?? Three stray dogs found in the same place on the same day??

I shouldn't worry because she is extremely "adoptable", but I can't help worrying and just generally feeling sad. I almost want to cry for her.
The girl from the shelter said she would update my friend and me, but I already started reaching out to people who may want a dog.

This is a blurry pic but here she is eating from my hand (with my three dogs watching). She was scared but so tame and good natured and snuggly. In case her family isn't found, she is at Somerset Regional Animal Shelter in Bridgewater, NJ. Doesn't hurt to get her pic and info out!!

You have such a big heart. That sweet little baby is so lucky that you reached out to help her. I'm sure she will find a good home soon. Thank you for all that you do.

I think she looks right at home at YOUR house!!!
She is beautiful. I have always been a "big dog" person, but I recently found myself unexpectedly with a chihuahua in the house, and he's such a good boy. He hangs with the big dogs like he doesn't even know he is 10% of their size!

She is adorable! She must have been terrified, I know my chi would have been if he was out without us:( I hope her owners either come forward or she finds a great home...she does look right at home with you:)

Bless your heart, Patti. I sure hope this cute little girl gets reunited with her family.

Have you heard anything back from anyone yet????

Your dogs are SO incredibly well behaved!!!!! Kudos to you!!! :)

I remember when I lost my Eskimo Spitz. All fuzzy and white, I enjoyed grooming her and doting on her like any good doggy lover. During a long walk in the woods I lost her. She simply trotted ahead of me and was gone. I was frantic. She had collar and tags but I put out several ads and even had the BIL put blurb on the local radio station. This was long before microchips, but an Eskimo Spitz should have been easily identified in this secluded mountain community of hunting dogs. However, she had a tattoo in her left ear.

I found her over a month later while horseback riding. She was a mile down the road living in a neighbor's fenced yard. Of course she recognized me and tried her best to come to me. A person came out and told me this was her dog. I knew better but didn't argue. I sicced my FIL on this person (mountain folk protocol), and my dog was returned to me.

I bet she had a story to tell and I bet this little chihuahua has a one to tell too!

My dogs are used to being around other Chihuahuas. I seem to have inspired a number of my friends to take my overflow!!! LOL ("OMG really cute dog who needs a home, looks perfect for you!")
Pinto is wearing the thundershirt in this pic though because he got jealous of all the attention she was receiving and started barking! HE is the prince around here, just ask him.
I haven't heard anything yet. Still hoping for a happy reunion!

Has she been scanned to see if she is microchipped? Hope her home is found soon, someone may be missing her! A member of my forum recently rescued a chihuahua whose owner's ex-boyfriend had taken and dumped him in a park!

The girl from animal control said she was going to scan her for microchip right away. I am thankful she was at least found and in shelter before this terrible cold and snow. How awful if she were out in this. Overnight temps are supposed to be very cold for the next couple days.

Glad you found her!

This summer we rescued a stray. A sweet little pitbull ran across the road, and since our dog has recently died due to getting hit, we had to get her. I sacrificed my Taco Bell for her, lol. And when we brought her to the animal shelter, we weren't sure which highway we'd found her on, so my sister guessed. She put down a high way half way across town - a good 10 miles from where we found her, lol. Im sure if her owners claimed her they'd be very confused!
