My 4 month old conure has these symmetrical bald spots on his shoulders, large ear holes, and huge feet.. he also holds his shoulders really funny.

The vet did a bunch of tests and everything came back today..
the verdict: Profound and severe retardation
yes.. my bird is mentally handicapped.
the vet said it will affect his body size, behaviors, and intelligence.. it was caused by inbreeding at the bird mill.
and here I just thought he was silly and docile..nope. hes just special.

I'm kind of weirded out now because hes so bonded with my other conure.. what if they breed? lol weird situation right? I guess I'll make sure to kill their eggs and replace them with fakes.

I had never heard of it, although I have had a couple of other animals in my sixty years and many animals, that I thought were retarded. One cat and one dog, not diagnosed as such, just way out of normal. The cat was a wonderful loving but very slow and handicapped companion. The dog was loving but incapable of learning even the simplest commands. Interesting. He may be a wonderful pet anyway. What do you think?

Awe, he doesnt know he is retarded! Id love to see pics, he sounds precious. It must be stressful having a bonded pair but not wanting them to breed. Does this influence their personality? How do you keep you female from becoming egg bound?
