Not sure how worried I should be or is it my pride. I think something scared Timneh Iā€™m not sure what. I moved my toaster in the kitchen and that upset her so I put it back where it was. She seems to be avoiding the kitchen now. Also she seemed fine this morning she was hanging on her door waiting for me. Then when I went upstairs and dd stuff for about an hour she was sitting on her bar in the hall way at the bottom of the stairs. When I picked her up she seemed off put I guess. She flew to her house and went inside. Then she didnā€™t want to come out for a few minutes. She ate a pellet and got a drink. Then she came out to sit on my head but seems quiet. Her balance seems fine but she seems jumpy. Bus went by and she flinched, Bella barked she flinched. I guess itā€™s a toss up whether or not she would of flinched on those anyway but something seems off. Could she just be tired and napping which she does like to do. Not sure if Iā€™m just being vein but she always wants to be with me. So those few minutes just seemed odd to me. Thanks guys might call my vet see what he says. Talked to them earlier about my dog and they actually werenā€™t taking appointments due to a broken a/c.

When I try to take her towards the kitchen she flies off of me. Sheā€™s sitting on her playstand eating pellets now.

Hmm still kind of stressed. She doesnā€™t want to go towards the kitchen thatā€™s for certain. Sheā€™s back in her house sitting quietly. No more openings to be seen today. Which is a bummer. They said as long as sheā€™s eating and drinking those are the biggest signs of not feeling well. However something is just off with her today. She has an appointment for Thursday at 9:00. Poor Tim Tim I hope everything is ok.

Got some fresh air coming in for her cause weā€™ve been stuck in the a/c during this heat wave. I love this grey baby.

I donā€™t think so her room as stayed pretty nice. Right around 76 degrees. I think it has to do with the toaster last night. I got her to go into the kitchen but she wonā€™t stay. Which is funny because I couldnā€™t keep her off the ceiling fan in the kitchen to save my life.

It's good you got her an appointment for Thursday, you're always better safe than sorry with them, as they do such a good job of hiding illness/pain...you know her better than anyone else, better than any Avian Vet, and if something seems off, then it probably is...Yes, it's good that she's still eating/drinking, but usually the first signs of a sick bird or a bird in pain is actually sudden lethargy, sleeping more than usual, suddenly being fluffed-up, hanging-out at the bottom of the cage or on flat places other than perches (so they don't have to balance), and then a lack of appetite, vomiting, etc...So it's good that you've caught it, if it is anything...Could be the toaster thing, but it's odd that you're saying she seems "off" even away from the kitchen and the toaster. I can't imagine moving the toaster would bug her so much that she would be acting weird all the time, no matter where she is in the house...But they are creatures of habit, that's for sure...

Just keep an eye on her, watch how much she is eating to make sure that isn't going down, and hopefully it is just a behavioral thing and she'll come around....keep us updated on how she's doing...

Timneh is a little bit more like herself today but still reserved. She still doesnā€™t want much to do with the kitchen. Sheā€™ll go into it but then get uncomfortable and flies back to her house. She seemed like she slept well last night she was still on her sleeping spot when I went down this morning. Usually sheā€™s moved to somewhere else by the time I come down stairs. I slept on the couch for a few hours last night downstairs with her. She was in her house sleeping not on the couch with me.

My friend Jake who Timneh loves stopped over. Timneh was encouraged by his company and flew onto The ceiling fan. She was much more herself strength in numbers. Lol

I remember reading Irene Pepperberg was going through something similar with ALEX - he got spooked by seeing something on the porch in her house and tried his hardest to avoid that place ever after, though he had always been fine with it before that incident.

(I write 'he' but am secretly conviced it was a she ;) )

Just back from the CAV and he didnā€™t want to do any tests to Timneh today. He said she looks great and they thought she was so cute hiding behind her Dad. As long as she keeps eating and drinking well he didnā€™t want to stress her out. We are going to monitor for two weeks and go back and have her nails trimmed up and maybe her beak a little. And if there is any changes or decline in her health and behavior to call him right away. Timneh is still avoiding the kitchen but has gone in on my shoulder a couple of time now. And seems to be getting back to her old self. Of course she doesnā€™t want a treat now we are home. Gonna give her sometime to get settled back in.

After a bit of preening she digs into her well deserved treats.

Does she growl or scream at all and are her feathers held very tight to her? Does she try and fly to the highest perch point she knows?

When Enzo is scared or upset with something she lets me know by doing combinations or the above, she will also look directly at the object causing the issue.

Im with salty, maybe its a heat thing. My Kitchen gets full sun all day and I no longer keep her in there unless the heat has dropped, I now keep her in the hallway during the day as it is by far the coolest room.

HTH

No she was going inside her house and just sitting and eating pellets pretty much. Just odd for her to want to go into her house when Iā€™m home. Sheā€™s returning to herself but I think the kitchen has lost a bit of its charm which is a bummer cause itā€™s part of her circle around the house when sheā€™s flying. Three air conditioners and a high electric bill is keeping us pretty comfy. What does it look like when they are over heating?

Could she have got spooked by some fireworks , we had them going off all around us since last Sunday at first April was spooked at the sight and sound of them?

Possibly but she didnā€™t seem bothered by them on the third or 4th of July. Do you guys think I should have pushed for some tests to be done at the last vet visit? We are going back in two weeks anyhow. But. Due to the prolonged time where she is definitely avoiding the kitchen it seems more environmental then anything else. The doctor didnā€™t want to add to the stress if it was an environment thing. Sheā€™s still eating and drinking well. And sheā€™s done a few fly bys in the kitchen and last night she went in on my shoulder and took a pine nut her first treat sheā€™s had in there from the fridge. So thatā€™s cool.

What does it look like when they are over heating?

Tight feathers, wings held out from the sides, beak open and tongue moving as if panting. Enzo did this in the GFs conservatory the other day. She didnt alert me or even fly to another part of the house at all so im glad I noticed. Cool water mistings are good when its hot.

As its been very hot in the UK for a few months I always offer Enzo a drink when ever I drink, she always accepts too.
