Stormy is going through a rough molt right now that's making him a little sick. No weight loss or anything (I'm now weighing him more frequently), but he's definitely more fluffy and sleepy than he used to be, and shivers more. The adorable thing is, he still sits next to me and sings to me, even though I know he must be EXHAUSTED. I cannot afford to go to the vet right now, as I have a sick turtle who has an apponitment this Friday, and something tells me it's gonna be expensive.

Right now, I'm keeping him warm, and giving him baths, anything else that may help?

they sell molting mix and egg food you can try. Molts seem to need a slight bump in protein. And more calories so even bump the seed amounts you offer. So offering a little boiled egg or buying the egg food sbd try. Caution with egg food it can spoil quickly, if it's turned dark or smells rank its gone bad even if its bought like that as a brand new bag.

Shivering and fluffy would worry me. And a prolonged molt can be hidden health issues.

Yeah, if it goes on after this week, I'll totally bring him to the vet, and I'll look into eggfood right now, thanks!

Hi Ollie,

Keep warm…maybe even make your own little brooder with a heating pad and thermometer. Keep temp at about 85 degrees.

I have found that the Missing Link supplement helps as well. Quite a bit. My budgie, Hopper , has outlived all his siblings and parents. He looked very rough after his Dad passed over a year ago, but now is high energy all back to normal. I give this to all my birbies once a week.

Cool, I'll look into it!

I hope you all get a good checkup and treatment tonight and tomorrow. You and all your birds and pets need to feel better and be certain you are well. I will be thinking of you and hope to hear that it goes well.

This is very similar to what Francis is going through right now. I took him to his vet, Dr. Greg Burkett, who said he was going through a molt. The vet said that Francis is exhausted from that, and he has definitely been much sleepier. He's also clearly feeling cold, with pronounced shivering. I've put a bed sheet over his cage and a blanket on top of that. That traps heat in the top of his cage wonderfully. He also has a heated perch that he's been pretty much staying on.

I'm hoping this helps him, as this is the first time we've been through a "molt" since we got him in 2018. He's lost feathers here and there but they're really coming off him right now.

I've upped his protein intake with pecans, but any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Hmm, I may have to try that on Stormy! He also has an RI, so I think he's just feeling worse :(

Eggs or chicken might be a better option-more protein and less carbs and fat. Egg is a very digestible protein. Although nuts have fatty acids which can help in many ways with skin and feathers, they are high calorie and high fat.
