currently own a baby 11 month old yellow ringneck
How do i teach my new ringneck baby to step up im trying to build a bond!!:)

This is what I posted on your "ringneck" thread:

Patience, patience, patience is the biggest tip I can give you. Keep doing what you are doing and before you know it he'll want to spend time with you all the time.

Also, I would see if you can get him to step up on a perch first before your hand. Many hand shy birds will be willing step up on a stick or perch rather then your hands. You can then slowly get him used to your hands. I would also suggest that you take him out of sight of his cage when you try to get him used to your hands. I find some birds don't like stepping up onto a hand from the cage but will do it away from the cage.

Hi thank you soooooooo much anyways im not sure if i should take him out of the cage as his wings aren't clipped any suggestion???? The place we bought him from said to get his wings clipped in two weeks time??!?? Thanks in advance

If you are nervous about him flying about and hurting himself I would get him clipped BUT if he is a baby, be sure he has been given the opportunity to learn to fly. If you got him from a breeder, you can ask them if they allowed him to "fledge" - learn to fly.

If he is older and he seems to know how to fly, clipping him should be fine. If you teach him to step up on a stick it will be easier to retrieve him if he does fly. You can practice this inside his cage. Have him step up on the stick then back on his perch in his cage until you know he is comfortable with it.

Personally I wouldn't clip, it is necessary for fids to be able to fly. Training your bird is the best thing over clipping. Just my opinion. Congrats on your new baby.

Then how did u train you birds without clipping wings i mean dont they just fly away and go crazy???!!!??? :) :) :) :) :):orange:

This may not work for your baby if he is afraid of you but I taught my birds to step up by lightly pressing on they lower chest and when they got it I would be very energetic about it and reward them. I did this while they were on a large, flat, stable surface and when they got up, I didn't lift them high. Pepper loooooovvved standing on a certain spot, so I would put him back after he stepped up as a reward.
