HI
I havnt posted in ages, practically since I first got Groot. Everything was going perfectly well with training. He could step up, high 5, fetch, turn around and was saying a few things as well. Then.....started to train him for a harness and crate training. Here, again all was ok, making slow progress mind, but he entered the crate for a treat and was ok with taking a treat through a loop in the harness and even got as far as putting it loosly over his end and then DISASTER....he suddenly moved and harness scared him and he flew off couch with harness trailing behind him scared out of his wits....finally calmed him and tried again few days later....all good....then same thing happedned again. Needless to say, he cant even see a pair of headphones and he thinks its a harness. He now has no interest in ANY training. He wont step up now either , although that was before the harness episode. Its not that hes afraid of stepping up, he just dosnt want to. Hes not afraid of hands as hes quite willing to step up on my hand if he needs help getting up onto the bed or other places. Cant even lure him to step up with his favourite treats.. Any suggestions anyone?

It won't take long at all for him to remember the value in training. Start of with the first step of clicker conditioning (if youre using a clicker) and then target him with the stick. I would do as many hands off tricks as I can. I wouldn't introduce the crate and harness for a week or so. Let him develop some other memories. Reward him for letting you pet him.

He just needs a good reminder thats all

Thanks for that StephenAndKyleigh, yes, makes sense leaving the harness and crate for a bit until memory of others come back. I'll be starting back slowly today. Got him a new aviary today as well so probably take a while to adjust to that as well. Although I'm not leaving him out at night , I'll tAKE him back inside to hs cage. Thanks
