So for a christmas present to my small flock, Im going to replace my old pots and pans with a bird-friendly option.

Ill be getting them at Target because its close and cheap, I dont really cook all that much...

Anyway, is the cheap stainless set by chefmate adequate for my needs?
The price is definitely right...
Chefmate 16pc set

Or should I go with the Ceramic set that says right on the front of the box "no fumes" "no ptfe".
Its more expensive and I get less for it...
But it is still doable... if need be.. i guess...
Green Pan Ceramic Set

Ive looked at both sets in the store, and I like the chefmate better because I feel like Im getting more for less, but i can imagine that its not the highest of qualities of SS, so is it still functional for my purpose of removing non-stick cookware from my kitchen?

Keep in mind, I only cook about maybe 5-6 times in a month, so not a whole lot...

From what I've read green pan has a lot of bad reviews, Green earth has better reviews ;) I've never used SS, but my sister used to have a set and hated it. She said everything sticked to it LOL But, they are beautiful, and I'd think as long as you oil the pans a little first it won't be too bad.

At my house we just have have plain old black pots and pans, no non stick. They've lasted for years, and clean well. I'm not sure what their made out of though...

I have stainless steel, and although it's a pain to cook some things (like eggs lol) due to sticking I really have no complaints.

I'm not the cook in the house but due to our birds, we use all stainless pots and pans. :)

Stainless steel and keep a bottle of olive oil to cook meat to prevent sticking. For the few times you cook eggs, a nonstick pan is ok with a hood fan running on high. You should be ok with that because you need medium heat or less for eggs.

Thanks everybody!
Just got back with the SS set....

If you don't know how to properly heat up pans, or cook, then SS is not a good option. Everything sticks to it if the pan is not hot enough, and you need to smoke the oil, then properly adjust the heat. I have no problem with it, but for those that aren't used to cooking, I would get ceramic, or annodized aluminum. NSF certified is best.

Stainless steel is best, just practice using it. Eggs are fine just get pan really hot and use good oil but use the oil that is meant for high temps so it doesn't smoke.

Right, canola or grapeseed are good for high smokepoints. I wouldn't use butter or olive oil. They burn at lower temps.

This one may be ceramic on the outside but the non stick is not good.

thanks for the tips and opinions guys.
I did go with the SS today, and I watched a bunch of vids on youtube about "seasoning" them with oil.

I actually cooked some scrambled eggs on it today just using butter and it went smoothly, no problems at all.

However, I did as suggested, and I saved a big and a small regular nonstick frying pan to be used in case of severe convenience ;)

Its gonna take some getting used to as these new pans definitely dont perform the same as the pans Im used to, but it should be no big deal...

I use mostly stainless steel, and I have the green pan. Love it. Some of them come with a bamboo spatula. Cool!

Lol
So here I go....

Imma attempt to make some sketti with meatballs with my new SS set right now...
Its gonna be multiple pots/pans at one time and stuff that will stick and/or burn...
Might as well jump right in, right?

Wish me luck... I might need it

No i havent had any problems, i just need to get a new card or whatever they do...
Just the hassle factor....

I found out yesterday that a friend of mine DID have fraud on her acct because of this situation, which is what reminded me about this cookware set I bought at Target....

I thought I missed that window, so sometimes Im glad I post my useless stuff online, because checking this thread is what made me realize Im in that mess now...

Bad, but would have been worse if you'd had fraudulent charges. That would have been even more of a hassle, proving it wasn't you. It's good you found out, too.

How are the pots, BTW?

I have a set of SS Cusinart cookware which I have used for 30+ years and prefer them over nonstick because I like to cook on higher temps when needed for pasta or vegetables. You cannot use high heat with nonstick which takes longer for food to cook. At least that is how I feel. SS is a snap to clean if you rinse the pot/pan out immediately after using. I use Brillo pads or scrubbies for cooked on foods. It will take you a while to adapt. If you get fed up with SS for the 5-6 times you cook, go back to using the nonstick and just be sure to have the exhaust fan on high and the air is removed to the outside of your house. Mine was not but had it modified to do so.

I am sorry you are one of the many having problems with Target.
