So I'm making some progress with Simba. He wants to step up but is unsure, but we'll get there. He now gets excited to see me come in the door and seems to be enjoying being around me. After he's had some time outside of the cage and goes back in, he hangs on the side of the cage and wants me to talk to him there. So I do. And the last couple days I will slowly put a finger in the cage and ever so gently touch his feathers. He isn't real sure what I'm doing, and he turns his head as if to make sure I don't get to carried away, and thats when I withdraw the finger. But when I do it, he makes a little squeaking sound, almost a whimper. I want him to be ok with me touching him, but if it's scaring him, I don't want to do it. So, should I continue trying to touch him or wait until I can actually handle him before I start "petting"?

Slow and steady wins the race Bruce. Your bird doesn't seem bothered by you touching him, and I'd keep that up. If he was trying to get away from you that would be a different matter, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Good luck there :)
