Spray bottle shower versus bird bath

Your parrot will tell you which he likes best. Try any method you can think of, from spray bottle ( hide the often colorful spray tip, as some parrots are afraid of it.) to sink showers, to showers with you, to letting him roll around on a bunch of lettuce leaves soaked with water. Try warm and cool water with each method. One or more will appeal to him, and he will visibly enjoy it. IRNs are no different then other parrots, deep down they all love water. My Salty, a small Amazon, likes a spray with warm water from a blue tipped spray bottle. I soak him pretty good, with him raising wings and rolling his head around, to get every thing wet. BUT, immediately after will run into his cage and complete the process in his water bowl. SO keep trying different things. When Floyd raises his wings up and acts happy - you hit upon the right method. Good luck.

The only thing that needs to be added to the excellent Post above is: Never mist (spray) a Parrot directly in the face. Start misting into the air above the Parrot allowing the mist to settle from above 'naturally.' If your Parrot enjoy misting, when the wings come up, then mist into those areas and the general bottom of your Parrot.

Make bathing a fun event for everyone! They will seek you out if you do!

Also it can take a few times for them to get used to it. Not sure about something is different from being scared. My Alexandrine tolerated sprays for about 4 months until he started to enjoy them! My mynah has only just stopped flying off and I've had her 3 years!

Nike hates the bottle but loves the bowl. If she hasn't taken a bath in a week I usually take her up to the shower...which she tolerates, to get her wet. Then put on her playstand with a fresh 32oz bowl of water and she finishes up...with about half of it ending up on the floor. Though no bowl is too small when she's in the mood. In this pic we were camping and she was on the picnic table. The sun was going down and it was getting chilly. I was just about to bring her in when she decided the time was right.

Bumble prefers the sink faucet. When I first had her we’d go there for “drink” every night, and I’d make a pool out of my hands, and one day she just dove in. Now she dives in quite frequently at drink time, and I’m starting to think she says “drink” when we get to the kitchen to let me know she wants her bath. Hard to tell as her words aren’t the clearest but there does seem to be a specific sound she makes.

Wish mine would use the sink....way less mess.

Only the water bowls here, no matter what I try!
