Yellow-Collard Macaw
This is Harley Quinn. She is now 11 months old. She was completely unexpected since her parents are quite the odd couple. Her father is a Catalina macaw and her mother is a Yellow-Collard "mini" macaw. I have not found any information on this type of hybrid and wasn't really sure how she would progress, but she is growing into a great little bird. Personality wise, she has a mix of traits from both parents. Any suggestions on what to call this hybrid?

Oh my goodness! I can't say I've ever seen a hybrid between such vastly different sized macaws. She may be unique in the world! It may be up to you to "name" the kind of hybrid she is. She is a pretty bird and looks healthy enough. What does the vet have to say about her?

P.S.- I hope that mommy and daddy won't have anymore "alone time" after this special little surprise;)

What a beauty! I would take Harley Quinn to a certified avian vet, hopefully one with deep knowledge of macaws. Hopefully the genetic loading will allow for a long and very happy life! That said, we never know what such a combination will create.

When she was about 4 months old, I took her to a certified aviary vet (with the best reputuation I could find). She was DNA tested, had a full check up and blood work for testing. He said she was in perfect shape. All her blood work was good. It took a little longer than usual for the DNA testing due to the lab not knowing how to "categorize" her. I followed up with him a couple months later so he could check her progression and she continued to flourish from there.

I am having a hard enough time getting my husband to let me keep her....mommy and daddy are no longer allowed to "hang out" unsupervised. I have no idea how they bonded to one another...but to each his own...

Fantastic! Love the new pics, who would have though such a combination was possible. Perhaps you have the honor of designating a hybrid name?

What a beautiful hybrid I have never seen before!! If you have facebook, I encourage you to search for the group called Hybrid & Mutation Macaws - post some pictures there, people will be ALL OVER your little HQ :) I think there would be a lot of people interested in a baby of this kind. If you aren't on facebook, I would love to share your Harley Quinn on the page with your permission.

Some name suggestions...

Catacollar macaw
Collatina macaw
Yellow-cat macaw
Catellow macaw

She is shy but friendly when she warms up. I've noticed characteristics of both mom and dad. She's smart...likes to be a brat when she's in that mood. She is making a lot of sounds..some I can make out (step up)(kissing noises) so I thinks she will be a talker. She loves water/baths, rolls over and plays, like to snuggle and loves car rides.

I vote for thr Cat Coll macaw (get it? Whistling...no? Ok).

I’m floored. My first reaction was “not possible, such a huge size difference).

My second reaction was “omg get off that poor little lady!”

Joking aside, absolutely adorable and such a unique mix. PlEase keep the photos coming!

What ever her species will be called she is sooooo beautiful! Her name fits her looks perfectly.

Surprise indeed!

If she decides to tour Europe when she is all grown up... she is welcome to stay here ;)
