Hello all. My name is Danielle and in a few months I will be the owner of a Timneh. Right now he or she is in their egg.

I just wanted some advice on caring for a timneh. I have read things nonline but I wanted advice from you guys as well.

The bird shop that I am buying my baby from have told me that having a dog present in the house with a timneh is fine. Is that true? I have a small dog. Of course I would be supervising.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Danielle

Welcome. I have a wonderfully sweet TAG named Rosie who just turned 3 years old. She has been and still is fantastic. The only mistake I made with her in the beginning was putting my hands in her cage when she was inside. that has made her cage possessive. I wait until she is out or I will get a reprimand from her beak. I suggest you have the breeder wein her to Harrisons High Potency pellets. That will help so much. I could go on and on here but you can PM me anytime for other information or just put it out there for our forum members.

Welcome!!

The most important is to take it easy forward, first trust and adjusting. So dont ever do something the perrort dont want to.

Good luck

Yes, it is perfectly fine! Dogs and birds can make a fine mix! I had both a TAG and a CAG with a dog. Even with a cat (although I personally don't recommend this, this particular cat couldn't climb, so no risk to the bird. Poor thing couldn't even get on the couch without assistance!). My mother has 6 birds and 5 dogs, all living inside her home. I have a small dog, a Boston Terrier, and a GCC. The only thing about dogs and birds, is that some dogs will hunt around the cage for discarded "treasure", such as seeds, bits of food and poop (gross!!! But true). Be sure that of you are giving your bird something fresh that is not dog-friendly (grapes and raisins are what come to mind - those can kill dogs, and avocados are harmful to both), that you either keep poochie in another room or crate them (that's what I do).

I have pictures of Onyx (dog) and Loki together. Trust me, the bird will boss the dog around ;)

cats also have a bacteria in their saliva that can kill a bird within a day from contact.
anyway, welcome to the forum, fellow sagittarius. i'm sure our knowledgable members
will help you any way they can! :)

There is bacteria all over, from what I know it is not more risky with cats than i dog or for that mater human and sorunding. The best way to avoide that a perrot being killed by bacteria is to keep it in perfert shape. The best way to do that is the right foot and company

Thanks for the replies. I actually have a cat but he is pretty laid back, its the dog that im concerned with. Ill just supervise like crazy.

How soon do timnehs start to talk? He or she will be 4 months old when we bring it home.

kitty bacteria isn't about keeping the parrot in shape. it's deadly to them.
