Hi guys!

I'm new to this forum and hope to become an active member as of today! My fiancé and I have been researching many different birds and have finally decided on a little Meyers baby. I'm so excited I can barely contain myself!

I have some experience with birds but this will be my first Meyers. We've done a lot of research and from what we've read, these guys are pretty adventurous, fun-loving and comical birds. Socialization seems to be very important while they are young or they can grow up to be fearful of new people and things (though that sounds like any animal if it's not socialized properly). We don't care about talking ability; we're just looking for an even tempered, loving bird that will enjoy our company!

Meyers owners, I'd love to hear from you! Any advice? Things I should be worried about? We haven't officially said yes yet; I guess I'd like to hear from some experts first and make sure this is the right bird for us. I will answer any and all questions!

Thanks for your help. =]

I have one! She is EVIL!!! She bites and drives me off. She loves my husband with devotion but bites him badly too. She is always vicious towards me.

She has a HUGE vocabulary and talks all the time. She is active and fun. She is afraid of nearly nothing. I adore her, but am working very hard to make her safe to handle. She used to be handleable, but once the hormones kicked in, she became a whole different animal. I doubt that she is "typical." I got her because they were supposed to be so easy.

She is anything but.

Thanks for the reply.

I've read they can go through a "nippy" stage. Is this what you're referring to? Did you have her as a baby or did you adopt her later on in her life?
