Today we were at petsmart to get some kitty litter. I saw an adorable cinnamon conure all full of pin feathers very quietly minding his business in his cage. I was looking at him long enough, feeling bad for him as he also has nails that are way too long and he just looked so sad and itchy, that an employee actually invited me out back to handle him.
They employee allowed me to take him out. Poor baby was scared, but after about 5 minutes of patience he stepped onto my hand (he is the most timid conure I've ever met).
He immediately accepted some scratches and happily sat with me while I talked to the employee. He is about a month younger than Kyo, but they don't know the gender. The conure stayed with me for about 15 minutes before Brent came looking for me. He saw me in the back (the door windows are clear) and smiled. He came in and immediately fell in love with the sweet little guy. He was just a little cuddle monster.
We are going on our honeymoon, and plan to talk about taking him home when we come back. We have a lot of things to consider before making a final decision, but this little guy really feels "right" to us. It's funny because we really weren't expecting to fall for another conure, but he was just so calm and easy going.
This said, he is literally the polar opposite to Kyo. How will she react (after quarantine? Do you think she would be totally jealous or the opposite?! WIll they over bond even if caged separated?? I love my girl and obviously her needs come first, I don't want to cause her any kind of unhappiness.
The one good thing is that now that we know better, Brent can help me properly socialize him and hopefully he will be able to handle this little guy a little more than Kyo. This would mean that Brent would be more inclined when home to spend time with the birds (and could be the primary handler during quarantine so that I can keep Kyo happy).
Well... What is everyone's experience with multiple GCC's? How should we go about this? Is it a good idea?! We are absolutely torn at the moment.
