Sunday afternoon, Husband and I visited a gator/croc sanctuary in Angelton, TX called Crocodile Encounters and I have to say it's not my thing but I had a great time! I think the best thing was watching the kids enjoy it so much that came with their families. I've had minimal exposure to gators in south Florida where my parents have a house that sits on the water of Lake Okeechobee chasing people off that try to feed wild gators or swim there not knowing the danger. Here are some photos and for anyone looking for something to do with their kids. One thing though, at the feeding pool, do not lift your kids to stand on the waist high scale, I sucked wind when one kid being held by his parents tried to stand on the wet rail and slipped almost going into the pool of gators being fed!!!

Now they brought a boa out and I didn't want to touch him even though a couple of years ago I touched one that a lady had in a car. I did touch a baby croc though for the first time. Interesting feeling, it was warm and soft scales. We had a great time, great park, great tour with education too. Great experience and education for kids to learn. They had ring tailed lemurs too that came up to us. In one of their roped off areas I saw and heard birds. Me, I had. My eye to the crack looking in but couldn't see much, I'll keep you posted but I believe they received some birds. I feel good about this place and I'm going back to take my nieces and nephews for the great experience.

Lemurs up close and personal. The kids got to feed them.

Husband checking out the newest gator sent from the Bronx zoo to live out his remaining years here. This demonstrates how close you are but the gage on the wire fence is very thick.

Wow that's interesting! Glad you had a good time. The only way I'd hold a baby one like that, would be if it's mouth was tied securely shut!

I was on the fence with its mouth not being securely shut. It was a baby croc and before any of us could ask why it's mouth wasn't secured, they said it's a baby and crocs when babies do not snap, they depend on their mothers so it wasn't necessary to secure it shut. Good to know but still scary. I touched it's belly on the side by its back leg. That was enough for me, lol!!

The babies don't snap? Ever?? Interesting, I've never heard of that. I'd still not be getting near the head unless it was "unnecessarily" secured shut haha.

Crocodile Encounters for anyone looking for something to do with their kids...

That's one way to dispose of the evidence, I guess...

"TIME TO DISCIPLINE THE NAUGHTY CHILDREN!"

Nah...

Babies are just soft and pink! No hoofs. No horns. No antlers. They don't snap, they go squish...

MMMMM! TASTY!

:p

Funny you say that because the guide asked the kids "what's in the feed bucket? Kids that ask too many questions, lol!"

Oh, there are many, many bad joke possibilities here...

"soft and pink" is only the beginning of very depraved (albeit funny) humor.

Gaters. They're cheaper than Military School.

My idiot brother had a job at some gator attraction in Florida for awhile doing in water gator shows, head in mouths, wrestling them, that kinda stuff. His wife made him take out extra life insurance while he worked there. Our collective experience with snakes got him the job there, and he was 'promoted' to gator wrangler. Dumb, so very dumb, but that's what your 20's are for, right?

I must know, did he get approved for life insurance, basic and extra???? If so, amazing!! I have major respect there.

I have no idea, but both were scammers so who knows what they told the insurance co. I got no problem handling really big snakes, our biggest was a 15 ft rock python, but crocs.... nope.

Very cool experience. I'd be very leery of those animals and keep a good distance or have a Star Trek style force field!!

Can't imagine the transition from snapless baby to ferocious adolescent or adult takes place seamlessly! Gotta be a transition, so count me out!
