Kiwi-3 year old Nanday Conure, Loui-5 year old Gold-capped Conure!
I'm going crazy here! Kiwi is behaving so badly it has gotten to the point where I'm afraid to mess with him. I was holding Loui earlier and Kiwi flew off the toy and onto the floor then climbed all the way my legs to my shoulder. I put Loui back on the toy and tried to play with Kiwi but he bit my fingers. So I just left him alone for a minute and next thing I knew he was lunging at my face biting. He bit me 3 times before I was able to get him off of me and back on to the toy. Have I done something wrong?? Why is he doing this!? I'm scared of him, literally. I dont know what to do!! I'm afraid he keeps acting like this I'm going to have to find a home for him where they can rehabilitate birds. I dont want to but I'm really out of options! He is way worse now than he ever was and I dont know why. Is it because I got more birds? Is this his way of telling me he's mad at me? He made friends with Loui really quickly so i dont understand. I wish there was a way for me to describe how he is behaving. I'd take a video of it and post it but I'm not willing to be his chew toy for long enough to do that. I'm trying to discourage his bad behavior but its not seeming to have any affect on him what so ever. When I try to give him a treat he goes for my fingers instead of the treat even. Please help me.

I wish I had an answer you but I have a 9mth old quaker. Did you post on the conure section? I just read it under new posts. Good luck Alison and sweetie pie:D

Spring time can be a crazy time for our pet parrots, they are often highly hormonal and more aggressive/unpredictable.

How many hours a night does he sleep? Maybe you should add a few.

make sure not to feed him any warm foods during this time

Don't pet him anywhere but the head

Don't give him any dark places to try making a nest out of

I havent done anything. No warm foods etc. I put him in his cage about 7 or 8 now versus 8 or 9. I dont pet him anywhere seeing as how all he wants to do is bite. Even if he's on his playpen and I try to pet him he lunges at me with his beak wide open! I literally dont know what to do. He's not being unpredictable.....trust me, I know what he's thinking when he says pretty bird trying to get me over there...all he's thinking is c'mere so i can rip your face off. Does this kind of behavior generally last for long? I mean if it is just him being hormonal due to it being spring?

Conures usually need about 12 hours of sleep at night. Mine can get grumpy if they don't get their sleep. They usually go to bed at 7:30 and wake up the same time the next morning. It is probably a combination of things but mostly hormonal reasons. Also make sure Kiwi gets plenty of time out of the cage and plenty of attention. If he is too mean to handle for now, sit by him and talk to him and offer him treats. Hopefully things will turn around soon. Good luck!

I let him out of the cage the same as I always have, except now when I get anywhere close to it he lunges at me. Today he bit me through the cage bars when I was trying to get him food and fresh water. I just dont know what to do.

THis just happens. Hormones are tough. These hard days pass. Set yourself up for success. Don't ask for behaviors if you think Kiwi will fail. Keep things positive through the bars of the cage if need be. Hang in there.

You can clicker train and bond through the bars.

Manage what you can. Don't panic.

I have been here twice with my bird. It killed me the first time. This time, I'm just doing the best I can and waiting for it to pass. It passes. It isn't personal, so try not to take it personally.
