Hello people!

Thought i'd share some new pictures taken recently of baby Drago. So far he's doing great and is actually my favourite. He is very easy to train all kinds of tricks and is on his way to become a free flyer! He already knows how to turn around on command and how to wink on command! He now says hello, and hi incredibly clearly and also mimics crows to a point where I almost cant tell a difference!

So far, so good! :D :green:

Amazing progress in record time! Love the photos, what a beauty you have there, thanks for sharing. Please tell us how you ever taught a parrot to wink on command, Baby Drago is a parrot prodigy.

Like Allee, I am amazed at your progress and the beauty of your Blue-Fronted Amazon!

In the photo group (last one, landing), I noted that he has yet to use his tail feathers as part of landing. This will come in the near future as his skills and use of his flight structures continue to enhance.

In that same photo of his landing, note the opening between his body and inner Wing Structure. That space allows air to pass though and reduces the resistance of the air allowing him to land. During take-off that area is kept close to the body as he wants to build on the prior 'ball' of air under him (lift).

Thank-you, for the photos!!!

Stunning, stunning bird! WOWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gorgeous xanthopteryx. That's a ton of yellow on the wing! :) How long did harness training take? Kizzy keeps making me thinking I'm almost done and then suddenly refusing to cooperate. Ah, parrots! XD She learned more from taking her to my singing class a few days ago. :)

WOW!! Now THAT IS a Blue Front!! That blue on Dragos' head is amazing! And the last photo of him coming in for a landing...just beautiful! All of his photo's are superb, thank you so much for sharing :D

How old is Drago?? And how long did it take to get him harness and flight trained?? Both of you are doing an awesome job.
Again..Drago is ONE handsome BF!
Thanks again for sharing!!!!!

Thank you so much! Drago is a real beauty and I'm so glad to hear your thoughts! :D Really made my day!

I've taught him to wink on command by simply touching and lifting his foot (which is another thing needed to train on some parrots, so called touch training) and then clicking and rewarding the behaviour. In time he'll learn that everytime my foot is up in the air, I get a treat! then you can turn that into a command like ''wink'' and eventually he will listen for that command and then wink. After he does that, I immediately reward and in the end I reward with something enjoyable, like a whole chili, or a peanut, walnut a.s.o. That way they really look forward towards the next session! :D

Oh what a wonderful comment and nice to see someone who knows what they're talking about! Drago is still not a pro, and is a little clumsy, but still very good at flying. It's all a learning process. But good points and nice observations indeed! :D

You're welcome and theres alot more to come in the near future! :)

Thank you! He comes from two beautiful parents that are slightly more beautiful and vibrant than he is. I guess because of age and the molting! So that is a nice way of telling apporimately how Drago will look like in the coming years! And I'm so excited! :D

It took about a month only because he was so easilly taught since I got him quite young and was able to handle him straight away with ease. He is a rare type that actually doesn't care much about being touched which is a very very good thing needed in order to harness train since it involves alot of touching. But Kiki my other BFA was the opposite! It took years! and she still hates being touched.. And I'm still working on her.. :) Patience, patience, patience and training is key!

A stunning example of BFA in full glory!! Dragon is simply gorgeous, and that landing image is exceptional.

Oh it's not everyday I look at him and think about how special he is. But for you to remind me actually makes my day! Thank you so much! :D <3

Yup, getting the aviator harness on involves a lot of touching. Nice job!

Thanks for the info. Now I know I can expect pretty much anything and everything. Personalities run the gamut.

Yes, at the end of the day. Every parrot is still harness trainable! :D Don't give up! I'm sure you'll succeed one beautiful day and that day will be more than worth it! Trust me! :)

Thanks, I really needed the encouragement.

Tonight, Kizzy gave me some insight into her reticence. It turns out she thinks "harness" is a game and she isn't always in the mood to play it. Yes, she is a tad fearful of the harness, but not enough to give up on the game.

She has done the same thing with other behaviors, but I tended to let her play until she was ready to work. After all, she's a baby with a limited attention span and she needs to play.

The reason harness-training has me so keyed up is I'm worried about Kizzy's socialization. Because she is fully-flighted, she can't meet strangers without the aid of a harness. Luckily, I also have a Pak-o-Bird. It isn't as good because there is a barrier between her and the outside world, but it's better than nothing.

If Kizzy is going to be a flighted bird, I simply have to accept these limitations. I'm tempted to rush something that can't be rushed because of the benefits of socialization. I have to make myself relax and slow down to the speed of Kizzy, whatever that speed may be. Socialization is so important I will be tempted over and over again to speed things up, but I have to make myself be patient. There's no other choice. If I rush things, I'll lose ground again. I have to take my cues from the bird. I'm the only one who can gauge when it's time to take that next step. No one else can tell me.

If she doesn't want to play "harness," I will let her go about her day and maybe try again later.

Mostly, it boils down to two factors: 1) she is insanely bright and gets bored easily and 2) she's sensitive, using the definition put forth by Elaine Aron on her site.

Again, thanks for the encouragement. We won't give up.
