Green Cheek Conure
Hi all! I am loving this forum and my Green Cheek and I are really getting close. He loves being around me. I leave him in his cage for a good time of the day while I'm here though as to not turn him into a spoiled little brat, but we do have a few hours everyday of quality time. He will even fly after me, or try to, when I walk out of the room. So cute.

Anyways, he has mastered the step ups and downs. What are some simple tricks I can start teaching? Also, I know GCC are not known for talking but they can learn to say a few words and mimic sounds. What is the best way for this? I constantly repeat Hi Tango(his name) over and over and over again and when I do this he will make a quiet, squeaky noise almost like two syllables that ALMOST sounds like he is trying to say Tango. But I might just be hopeful thinking. What are some fun sounds you taught your conure?

My Molly is out of the cage with me at least 5 to 8 hours a day. I am home most of the day due yo medical issues. She loves being around me but when it comes time for her her to go back into the cage she walks right in when I place her on the landing platform. Surprisingly, she has not acted spoiled. :) Molly has been a gift from God!!!

I'm home all day pretty much since I'm doing online classes. I didn't mean for it to sound like I keep him in prison, but I've only had him for less than a week and I've been advised to give him as much attention as I am capable of for the next 20 years. Right now he is perched on my laptop watching tv. He gets a good 2-3 hours of time with me and then I let him hang out ontop of his cage with a some toys.

Awwww, so sleepy! It looks like your bird is comfortable enough to sleep on your laptop, so that would tell me that he is a perfectly happy and content baby. He just wants to be next to you.
As far as the talking goes, we made a CD and just played it all day for Clifford. It had songs and words and phrases on it. He mimicks parts of the songs now, says a few of the words, and dances when one of the songs comes on the radio. I am sure he is saying a lot more than I think he is, I just cant understand him.
Find his favorite treat, Clifford will do almost anything for a grape. except step-up, hes still a little shy :)

Hehe. We're a perfect match. We both LOVE to sleep! Yea, I've heard having a CD play while I am gone works. Hmm, maybe if I play a rap CD all day I can come home to a bird that sings I Like Big Butts? :p

lol....Clifford's favorite song is that "im sexy and I know it" song. lmbo....he looooves the part that says "wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle, wiggle" !!!

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW that made me giggle. Too cute. I am now DETERMINED to get him to say that.

ya, its pretty cute, when it comes on tv, he perks up and says something that sounds like "g-gil" and starts to dance. I think hes trying to say wiggle....I cant be sure, whatever hes saying, its cute that he loooooves that song. He's sexy and he knows it!

It looks to me that Tango is a maroon bellied conure not a green cheek, does he have red on top of his tail or green?
I teach my gcc to say beepbeep, I think its the easiest syllable.

awww, like a little roadrunner! how freaking cute! i want to hear that cdog, you should post a video!!!

I will when my mom gets home, she has the iphone.

Please don't get me wrong. I in no way was implying that you were treating him badly. I was just saying that Molly has not become spoiled being out all day so maybe Tango would not either. :)

Looks like you have a hybrid.
