Amy a Blue Front 'Zon
Jonesy a Goffins 'Too who had to be rehomed :-(

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
.. My BB is :) DJ,the guy I adopted The Cockatt Man from, stopped in earlier to have a look at the new guy. We were at the kitchen table, where BB's portable perch is and he was on it,and he saw DJ,e did his "squat, stand, squat, stand thing, then flapflapflap, off he went, right onto DJ's shoulder. BB being obsessed with shoulders, I guess it diesnt matter who's shoulder he is on lol.

He sat there for a good time, even nibbled at DJ's ear,let out a chirp or two,got on his finger, but went right back to his shoulder.

Arleen stopped in to get some of her stuff that is still here, she brought a couple grinders with her,but BB wasn't interested...just wanted a shoulder to perch on,and went to Arleens.
Now BB has never met either DJ or Arleen, and he still went to them.

I am mad at myself. Today BB was supposed to go to the vet for his wellness check. But I work the "graveyard" shift, and even though I set the alarm early..I slept thru it..dammit! I'll just reschedule.

I have seen evidence off BB trying veggie..a green bean in his water bowl. I count the peas and corn niblets to try and keep track if he is munching on them. Seems like one niblet and one pea were missing. :)

Does anyones 'teil use their hand to hold grub, like big birdies do?? BB just attacks whatever with gusto but I haven't seen him hold on to anything, just curious.

Sound like things are going great! Has BB shown any interest in Amy yet? Hope she doesn't start feeling jealous!

Dusty tries to hold a straw or a Q-tip with his foot just a little bit, but he's not good at it. The plastic bendy straws are his second favorite chew toys right after balsa, you might try them with BB to encourage him to grab stuff with his feet =)

Lucky you on the veggies! I also count Dusty's veggies and so far none have gone missing. I want to get one of those little veggie choppers and make him a mix of very finely chopped fresh veggies. He doesn't seem to like to bite pieces off his food so I want to chop the stuff up seed-sized. (Though he'll happily chew up some paper or balsa wood)

Great idea Wade with the chopper thingie :) I have a small chopper I use when I make chicken sald and stuff like that.

BB doesn't actively seek out Amy..its the other way around. Amy wants to be with him 24/7 and BB doesn't seem to care. Like I posted yesterday, I found Amy on his roof top, preening his hat,and BB was whistling while she did it,so it obvious,at least to me,that BB isn't afraid of Amy,and I knew Amy wasn't going to be mean/attack him. After nearly 27 yrs with her,I think I know how she is going to react to a new pal.

Wade, you said that Dusty is prolly 2 weeks or so younger than BB...has he gotten his new set of clothes yet? Do you know specifically he is,indeed,a he,or you just guessing?

At this point in time, I really don't care if he is a he or a she..and I think I'm going to keep "BB" as his name, coz it can apply if he turns out to be a she.

SORRY CHRISTINE!! :03: we both have BB's now.

I had the DNA test done so unless they messed up, I can know he's actually a he and I don't feel weird about calling him (or her) or he/she (s)he etc, hahah! From what I've read, I expect to see him in baby feathers for at least 3 more months. Seems the general rule is adult feathers will come in at 6-12 months of age.

some of my Tiels try to hold and eat food (3 out of 5) but non of them are good at it.
They try to hold pieces of millet and small pieces of apple. They get two or three bites and drop it to the floor. I have tried cutting the apples into different sizes to no avail. My best results are to wedge to food in between the bars of the cage. After an hour or so remove them so they don't go bad. I guess that would not work well with peas and corn ;).
