Re: So we brought Max home..Update
Hi Everyone,
I have wanted to update my post and let everyone know how Max has been but right after we took him my new Ducorp Cockatoo; Monty was weaned and ready to come home, so its been busy.
So, Max first turned kinda on the mean side and we started having second thoughts, I kept telling everyone its like a foster kid (we fostered children before we adopted our 4) they are testing us etc and lets give him time and we can not give up when we haven't given him a chance even. Since then he has started showing such a sweet side WAY faster then I thought he would and he is such a clown. He still likes my oldest daughter best but he is better about letting others handle him and the biting is way down (I have listen to everyone's advice so PLEASE share).
The plucking has diminished a lot, I really think a big part was being left on the lanai by himself all the time, he needed his family around him. He's very social and talks ALL the time and we talk to him ALL the time, even my kids are constantly talking to the parrots. He also never showered so we are working on that, the only place right now we can get him is the kitchen sink, which is a feat He looks like he's folded in half..LOL But he likes it so we go with it, baby steps. So I have noticed he has some yellow on his chest, more so then before, not sure how long it takes for feathers to regrow?? But looks a little promising. OH! We also bought him a TON of toys to keep him busy destroying.
Our lanai is caged and I wanted to put outside cages and perches and toys for the birds to play on when the weather is nice, so we put Max's old cage out there. My husband was cleaning the house and put Max out on the lanai to have some air on his old cage, he was shaking and panting, had to bring him in. I told my husband I think the old cage will have to go, it obviously has bad memories.
One question is him and Monty are next to each other and the couple times they were out of cages together they did not get a long. How should we introduce them?
So we are still working on issues and going day by day but he is great and here to stay. He's moved to many times already in his young life, just like my adopted kids he needed his forever family.
