I can't stress enough being patient with our fids. We brought Buzz home almost a year ago. Once he was shown his cage he went in and refused to come out. He has also been skiddish to being touched, very cautious. Well about two weeks ago he took the leap and came out of his cage and since he has been coming out more. I'm amazed at how his confidence has grown and he's not as fearful. His cage is next to Buddy's cage and Buzz is now roaming on his play top and Buddy's. He's playing with new toys and old, curiosity is growing and he wants to get on Venus' play top but I won't allow him. She's rather mean when someone invades her space or above it.
For those new parronts, patience, patience, patience! Buzz is still shy to touching but since he has been eye level with me sitting on top of the play top, I can stand close to him and he will interact with me and my hands, can't touch him, but he will take things and play with me with toys. It's wonderful to see him grow in confidence and curiosity. Also he's a good flyer, not too excited about that if he gets too brave but we'll deal with that if it becomes an issue.
