so many suggestions!

How about one of these?

https://www.beautyofbirds.com/patagonianconure.html

A friend has one and he is very independent and amuses himself well, makes a little noise when things are a bit different to normal and morning/evening. He still liked to have a cuddle and was affectionate.

those on the whole are noisier than suns! Haha

Also over here they are insanely rare

I have had one to stay for his holidays several times and do not think he was noisier than a Sun. He was very noisey some of the first time, I think he thought I was going to eat him! As he got better, more comfortable, the less noise he made. He was an excellent guard parrot as he warned me of anyone approaching the house and did the morning and evening calls. He would play with his cage toys for ages on his own and just called "alright?" for reassurance a few times. Answer him and he was great. My friend had left him on his own for a week several times with only her son popping in and out and he coped with it. He would come to his parronts for snuggles also. My friend got him from a breeder but she unfortunately moved back to the US. :) What about a rehome?

I met some people from the rescue when I went to the parrot show last month and they did turn me on to the idea of rehoming, they suggested a grey may suit me haha but they said that the smaller birds are what they find hard to rehome as people want the big ones normally.

Annoyingly there website shows hardly any of the ones they do have, they had at least 50 conures in the book they had with them and then when I tried to phone/email them it was like talking to a brick wall

Dont suppose you got any contact numbers whilst there?

Was the show good btw? Have put feelers out with contact I know.

PS contact has come back and not a positive response so recommend go through the process on Birdline as better than not IMO. Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised but do not go holding any breaths.

the show was amazing! Taught me so much about birds, let me find out I'm pretty damn close to a really good CAV (if only I had my car when I had Rio) I went through what happened with Rio to them and they were very supportive, said I did everything I could have done for him which was a boost to hear. They also said that it sounds like either an internal defect, or he may have caught himself on a toy when I was out and that may have done the damage to him, but they said as it was just about a month after I got him he could have been ill from the breeders and just put up more of a fight. Met lots of friendly birds which changed my opinions on many of them such as Cockatoos. They're not so bad IMO now haha, And let me know about rescue birds and how not all of the birds in them are broken down, some were very reluctant to be given to the rescues so I know there's probably the right one for me there. Funnily enough I just saw the meyers on that website and may have to enquire about him, he seems like a very nice bird.

It was also hilarious to see into the minds of some of the birds, there was a scarlett macaw who through his mannerisms was exactly like a naughty toddler, especially when he got a telling off for chewing his harness. did have a moment when speaking to the rescue people about how bad some birds they have were treated which was horrible to hear, there was even a poor too there that the previous owner had poisoned on purpose leaving a hole in her neck which was horrible. She was very sweat though considering that, just didn't like being the center of attention. Was a very good and very fun day out, even got my mum handling some birds despite her fear

see Rio was in between Jojo (where did his name come from?)..........

His original name was Coco at the rescue, and he recognized it. Daughter #3 and I really didn't like it, have known too many folks that had dogs named Coco!
JoJo popped in my head and stuck! We used both together for a while as a transition.
I must say, he really chose us! He came into the rescue in bad shape, featherless and hated everyone! I stopped in one day to check the new owners out, it is a feed and grain store, I didn't even know they had birds there. Coco(JoJo) was in a pit with a mixture of other birds, I walked over, the other birds freaked, Coco jumped up on me to say hi! Went home, told daughter about our encounter, a couple weeks later, she stopped in, same 'hello'! In the year he was at this place, they had never seen him go to anyone and they were sure he would never get another home! Several more unlikely events fell together and here we are!

Aw what a nice story! I thought his name may have come from the Anime Jojo's Bizarre adventure but evidently not

I do wish I get my own story like yours and Jojo's in the future

From reading your description of what you'd like in a bird, I'd suggest a cockatiel. My cockatiel was one of the sweetest, most loving birds on the planet. He passed due to kidney disease, but in the 17 years I had him he never once drew blood. He enjoyed being petted, most of his vocalizations were whistles or talking, and he was definitely able to self-entertain.

Awesome temperaments in general.

I wouldn't be opposed to a tiel, as long as it was friendly with me. Met a couple at a local breeder and they hated me! Got my cuts from then in that one meeting then I've had from cats and dogs over 24 years haha! I even owned a pair of Tiels when I was younger, Cocky and Flow. cocky was a nice bird, just never fully tamed. Flow was horrible, screechiest thing I have ever known
