I cried again as I picked up Pix's ashes at the vet's office. I was blown away when Angie handed me not only a beautiful little cedar chest, but I was so surprised it also came with a keepsake clay footprint, a beautifully done red aluminum heart 'dog tag' with 'Pix' engraved on it, a sympathy card with a cotton fiber heart with wildflower seeds in it to plant, and Pix's feathers. It all came in a nice sheer fabric gift bag with ribbon tie. HOW NICE IS THAT?!

I have had the misfortune so far of having 2 birds (previous to Pix) pass away. The one other little cedar box I have is my Bronze Winged Pionus Adrion who passed in 2006. That must have been from a different cremation company because I only got the little cedar chest with a plastic bag of the ashes in it, and that's it. Honestly, THAT was all I was expecting! I didn't feel like opening Pix's box yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the ashes were nicely presented in there too.

This company 'Peaceful Paws Pet Cremation and Memorials' is THE place to have a precious pet cremated. Their website is peacefulpawspet.com The website says even if your vet doesn't use them, you can request their service by providing them with your vet's info. I wanted to share with you about this wonderful company, but hopefully none of you reading this will need it for a VERY LONG time. :)

The sympathy card with the seed heart and instructions.

Clay footprint. It looks like he had 5 toes, but I guess maybe it was a bit hard to do. Came in a nice little bag.

Personalized name tag. How nice is that. What a beautiful little unexpected extra...

All packed up and well presented!

Awww Julie, that's so touching! Thank you for sharing this heartwarming experience. The keepsakes are a sweet tribute to Pix. It's nice to see a company show so much consideration, especially under these sad circumstances.

I love it!!! It is classy to show that level of respect for the loss of someone's cherished friend.

When I had Georgie cremated they did return her in a beautiful box, but nothing really 'personal'. When my dog Pablo died, I got four paw prints (ink on card stock) and a card, as well as a card and a donation to an animal charity from the vet hospital. It REALLY meant a lot to me too to have honored his life.

I am glad you shared the information. I hope we don't need it any time soon, but good to know.

What a beautiful little memorial to Pix! The company did so a wonderful job, and it looks like Pix was treated with much respect.

I actually had no idea such a service existed for pets. When Tiffany passed, we buried her in a (this sounds so bad) cardboard box in the woods behind my parents house:( I planted a couple lovely bulbs that bloom each year on the grave as a non-descipt marker:)

What a wonderful tribute to Pix..they sure go out of their way to let you know that your family member is special to them as well. I am so glad that Pix was so well taken care of by them, and shown the respect he deserved.

That is actually very impressive for a cremation company of pets....when i had my best friend cremated it was very hard on me. Wish i went with this company over the other one.

They sent him back in the most tacky looking, looks like a cookie tin...and that was it.

I will have to keep this company in mind in the future for any unfortunate events, thanks for posting.

Aww that is beautiful :) I think if anything happened to Lilo, I should get them to cremate her. That is so sweet :) All our vet does is send a sweet card in the mail. Thankfully we haven't needed to get one recently!

I am very sorry about Pix. He was a very good little bird and very cute. I am sorry that happened. :(

Thanks everyone. Yes it's VERY classy. Let me tell you... Emotionally, first, you go in sad thinking you're just there to pick up a little box, then you get flooded with pleasantly surprised emotions and shocked when you see all these extra beautiful touches and keepsake items! I left emotionally overwhelmed in a GOOD way. :)

What REALLY scares me is the future... Judging from how I feel about this experience, and how it was even worse with my Pionus in 2006 (bursted out in tears randomly for maybe a year after), and to think of the (hopefully long from now) inevitable time when it's Robin's time after 20 years as my BEST FRIEND, even closer and just different from any other animal I have or have ever had. If I'm this emotional over a little beloved pet like Pix, how much more will I go berserk with my special best friend?!! I know, I know... don't think about that now. You know how the mind wanders though!

Oh - on a good note, another extra was a pamphlet to order keepsake jewelry, and heart shaped ash pendants with a Swarovski crystal. Just thought I'd mention another nice touch that was offered through this company. :)

I'm very impressed, I will be using this company if the need ever arises. I cant even think of it
